Antihomeschoolers often make comments such as:

"The kids won't make any friends."

"They won't learn any social skills."

"The won't learn to deal with problem people."

"They won't learn how to work with others."

"They don't have enough contact with other people."

So, what, before mass schooling, people lacked these qualities?

Why is it that so many people say that if you send your child to school you will lose control over them and they become "bad" and you won't have any time to spend with your child?

And another thing, why is it that people say home schoolers are better just because their home schooled?
Now if you think about it the majority of kids and adults today were never home schooled.
Its like 99% of kids in the United States go to public/private schools, and 1% are home schooled. Now thats like saying only 1% of the nations kids are well behaved, socilalized, mannered, and educated. And that means 99% are dumb idiots.

And please don't give a sob story of why you've decided to home school your child. All I want is for people to anwer my question, if your not gonna say anything nice don't say anything at all.

And please note, I am a 14 year old home schooler so don't say I have no clue what I'm talking about.

We've talked about it many times before, but I never ended up going through with it. The thing is, if I'm going to do it, I need to act soon because 2nd semester starts mid January. I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind I just need to figure out how to re-open the topic and make her realize that I'm serious this time, I really want to go through with it, and will.

From personal experience, I can tell you that I sometimes regret not staying in public school through high school. I feel like I missed out on a lot of things. My friends I had while at school became distant. My distant friends seem to still be close, even if that closeness is only through the telephone or myspace. Is there a tight bond that forms between classmates who graduate school together ? Because I feel like I never bonded like I should have.

I am considering having my son home schooled. He was in the Academically gifted program at school making straight A's until he reached puberty at the age of 13 and now he makes all F's and wants to fight. At the end of the school year he is still able to pass the EOG Test This kid is so smart.... Any advice on what to do or maybe what could be going on in this child's mind........

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had graduated from Penn Foster High School and got accepted to a college, using that diploma. I am currently enroll in their program and almost done, but I am having some doubts about it now and wondering if any college will actually accept it. I have taking the ACT and SAT1 & 2. Let me know if you know of any colleges accept Penn Foster graduates.

My daughter has overactive bladder and my son needed to learn a slower pace.

I love teaching Math-U-See. It is visual, kinesthic and auditory learning all in one.

I use Learning Language Arts through Literature. Very Good.

My son uses "Handwriting without Tears" to learn cursive and likes it very much.

Currently I am used Mystery of History. It tells stories of real people through the ages. Keeps kids interested. And we can still recall.

Currently I use Dinah Zike's books for Science. Fits all learning style.

Piano lessons, tae kwondo, swimming, sewing lessons.

Socialization: Wednesday Night Youth group, Cub Scouts, Tae kwondo, Community Pool 2x week, Sunday School, Playdates, Book discussion club, Library activities, etc.,

When I asked my kids which is better, they love homeschooling better.

And they love to pick where to go for field trips. One time we went to a water treatment plant where they draw water out of Lake Michigan.

We love our lives!

Mike C has let us know his opinion that homeschooling, other than for medical reasons, is a selfish option.

I don't understand that comment at all. It doesn't make any logical sense to me since I chose this for my children's benefit--knowing what I do about child psychology and development and the schools here--and not for my own. It has nothing to do with if my kids would do fine in school or not--it's what kind of people are they more likely to become or what are we as parents going to have to work against each day to negate whatever nonsense they've picked up at school.

I gave up a career outside the home and the income that would have brought. This of course means giving up all kinds of material possessions we could have had if I were making that income. That's selfish?

I have a huge responsibility now in making sure that my kids really get everything they need. It takes a lot of work and I do it for them because I truly believe it's what's best for them. That's selfish?

what difference does it make if an organism becomes extinct?

2006-12-12 12:54:47 · 9 answers · asked by stevo 1

This can be answered by anyone who has been home schooled, anyone deeply involved within the home schooling process (i.e. parents as teachers), or anyone who knows someone who has been home schooled.

What was it like not interacting with peers - did that have a lasting effect? What was it like being taught at the comfort of home - was the delaying of due dates possible? Easy cheating?
