I am very new to the forum and I was hoping someone could help me. I am at a loss on how to get my Teen Daughter to take pride in her work and work to the best of her ability. She seems to give the minumum effort to her projects and it is a huge frustration to myself and the other moms in our Home School co-op. I know she can do the work, I have seen good things every once in a while. But if it is something she doesn't particularly like she won't give it any effort at all. In the real world and closer yet, it college, she will be asked to do projects and reports on themes she doesn't particularly like. I feel it is important for her to understand that she needs to give her best effort in all circumstances.
Any help would be appreciated!

Is there a site or place that I can go to or get ahold of where I can get the booklet for the Illinois Constitution for the new year. Ebay had some, but they were REALLY old. My siblings are homeschooled and I need the booklet so they can study for the test, all the sites ive seen online only gives you half of the lesson, so where can i find a whole booklet for the Illinois Constitution?

I'm a mom to a bright 3yo (in January). I hadnt planned on HS so early but she is leading me on this path. We have worked on some things the past months(Singapore math 1a/1b and motor skills) to get into the school groove and I want to start LifePacs this coming school year.
I have not decided if we want to start with K or if we should go to 1st grade. The assessment online is 3rd grade and above. I just don't want to buy something too easy/hard for her. The biggest obstacle at this point is she can not read/write, nor do I expect her to.

Mastered
Recognize all letters and numbers up to 29
Counts to 40 alone, 100 with help at 50,60,70etc
Colors/shapes, some 3D IE. pyramid, cube
Letter sounds
Sounds out 3 letter words
Sight word families -AT, -IT, -AN
Spell her and her sisters name
Sequencing, sorting, grouping
I must be missing stuff.
Any suggestions on which set we should start off with, K or 1st. I want to keep up with her but I don't want to push her.

Thanks

Which would you most want to be in? I am homeschooled and it ROCKS. I can get up almost an hour later, the days are short, and I don't have to deal with freaky people. What do you think?

I ask this becasue my sister in law were discussing homeschooling and she replied "I don't feel I have enough education to properly teach academia to my kids."

How do you respond?

I live in MD and recently a bill has been proposed that will have the public school system pay for the physical, occupational and speech therapies of special education students who are currently being homeschooled. I am curious as to what others...both in the special ed and home school community think.

As the mother of an autistic child, and someone who has done a fair amount of parent's advocate work, I generally discourage most families from homeschooling because in doing so they will loose all the ancillary therapy services they can get from the public schools. Few families are in a financial position to pay for these from private sources and insurance coverage for them is spotty. Also, special education budgets shrink every year, so the addtional cost is a factor.

As a homeschooler (of my other child) I feel that until the schools are willing to let my daughter join the drama club or play school sponsered sports, then no one group should be given special treatment.

i`ve been held back to school twice already. one, because of immigration stuff and 2 was because of stupidity..i`d like to be homeschooled. i`m really a good student, it`s just that i tend to get really lazy and do not go to school. or i really procrastinate a lot..lol..i thought i`d rather be homeschooled than miss a lot of school days and school work....can you give me some pros and cons for this?

I have a future first grader and I am looking for curriculum materials for him geared toward the classical homeschooling approach. I've read through the Well Trained Mind and I know what Susan Wise Bauer recommends and where I can buy materials commercially, but I was wondering if anyone had any they wouldn't mind parting with or selling. Please let me know. Also, if you have any good reading book ideas for the Ancients 5000 BC to AD 400, please let me know so I can add them to my list.

i think that is how it is spelt. it is a homeschool curriculm.
if any one has used it, or knows someone that has, i want to know

how it worked for you/them
how challanging it was
the methods used
how you/them liked it
why you/them chose it
and anything else that you would like to add.

i am currently homeschooled, and i would like to change my curriculm, i am looking at my options.

I'm a math phobic. Never took higher math. My son 13 knows more that I do. How can I homeschool math? My husband is an engineer. Is it fair to get him to do the math with the kids or do I need to learn with them (funny, ha, ha!). I feel that I'm not smart enough but feel a burden to be their teacher.

Can you tell me what time your get your children out of bed and what time you start homeschooling? Also, in what order do you do different subjects and how long does it take for a yonger student and how long does it take for a high school student to finish their lessons in a day? Thanks for any feedback. I did homeschool my daughter when she was 6 and having anxiety attacks. Now both are in private christian school, May start homeschooling again and if I do I'd like to get a great idea of a basic schedule to keep my kids on.
