Well, I did both homeschooling and public schooling. I was in public school through 10th grade. Then, we moved to different state a couple thousand miles away. The public high school here was huge. The graduating class was bigger than my whole school (Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade). So, I decided to homeschool. I loved it! As you mentioned, I was able to get up later (unless I had to work), I had shorter days, and I didn't have to deal with freaky people (unless they came into my workplace). I had always gotten good grades, but I started getting great grades (straight A's). I had been very shy and introverted, but I learned how to overcome my shyness. I still have my friends from public school, but I also have new friends.
However, you have to realize that homeschooling is not for everyone. Some people just cannot do it.
But, to answer your question, I preferred homeschooling, and I am going through college from home, too.

"stghm" is confused...he is saying that evangelical Christians give inaccurate information. The vast majority of homeschoolers are evangelical Christians...most bringing their children out of public schools because of the "false" teaching of evolution, the promotion of sex outside of marriage as well as homosexuality. These are why so many parents decide to homeschool to begin with. Most likely "stghm" has no clue what Evangelical Christians teach, so he would not be a good person to listen to. We homeschooled 2 of our three children...the 2 have grown up with no involvement in drugs, etc. while our 3rd, who is a senior in high school, is just now getting over all the problems she has had.
As far as friends go, all three have a large group of friends and fit in fine...so I don't think that really comes into play.

I'm home-schooled too, so this answer is easy.
It all depends on the following:
Do you have a social life? If so, homeschooling is the way to go.
Will going to Public school increase the chances of getting into the type of job you want or college you want to go to. If so, Public school is the way to go.

My 12 year old would have to disagree... I started homeschooling him this year, and he misses his friends. Also, I guess I am a little tougher on him that his previous teachers, so he is actually doing a lot more quality work. He does however' appreciate the sleep schedule, the hours, and the ability to be proactive in his learning and control his schedule.

It troubles me that you like homeschooling for the reasons you gave............ Sleep later? Is that what it's all about? Short days? Don't you want to learn and not worry about how long it takes? Freaky people? Aren't they EVERYWHERE?? I'd rather hear you give some reasons for homeschooling that don't just make your life EASIER!!

I went to public school and had to re-learn everything in college. Public school was a blurr, a complete waste of time for me. The teachers never really paid attention to me, I always passed my classes but I'm no quite sure if I really learned everything I was supposed to.
I would be more successful if I would've been home schooled, not wasting time and money in college, learning things I should've learned in high school. Also, could've saved some much heart-ache from all the crap that goes on in public schools.

I think home schooling is better, because lots of the teachers seem to be just concerned about a paycheck and not students. I am considering home schooling for my children. I am tired of dealing with the stress from public school. I think I could educate my children better because I care and want the best for my children.

I will be homeschooling my kids at least through elementary school. I am troubled by the lack of academic progress in public school and cant' afford a private school there isn't one in the area anyway. Just one mom's opinion.

Homeschooling is fine as long as it isn't done by evangelical Christians who give inaccurate information. I think the child might not get so much social activity though.
