What age is the best age to teach reading? Are thier any studies on teaching children to read at age 4? 5? or even 7? Do children that wait to learn to read show an advantage over their early reading peers?

But my mom has two jobs and she doesn't have the time to teach me. So I was looking into taking my classes online with Penn Foster High School but Im worried because i would like to go to college and I don't know how that would look to them. There are many options but we can only afford to spend $1000 and we would like a school that has a payment plan. I am 16 years old and I am going to the 11th grade so i really would like some advice from people with experience with Penn Foster who have went o college or even some one who has used another school who has also attended college. I would like a selfed- paced program so that i can graduate by Janurary 2007. Thank you

This school will be for K-12 and it will be biblically based. I would like for the name to sound pleasant and not stuffy. Help! I've run out of ideas!

My son should be starting school in the fall , and I want to home school him. He is very smart, and more functional than even I am, but he has Cushing's syndrome ( causes obesity and hypertension, diabetes ) and I don't want him to be made fun of. He has gone through his whole life with supportive people around him, and I do not want him to experience the pain of being made fun of and teased.. is this a bad reason to homeschool?

I found a website a long time ago that was for homeschooling moms. I only used the toddler/preschooler part. It was very complete, had a lot of activities and lessons on it. They had a daily curriculum starting a infancy. That's all the information I can provide, I don't remember anything else about the site. Does anyone know of a good site like that?

I'm having such a horrible time teaching my son to properly grip his pencil/marker/crayon when he writes. I want to have him practice his letters, but worry that until he learns to get the right position he'll be learning incorrectly.

Most of the homeschooling parents I've met have chosen home schooling because they felt the public school atmosphere was too liberal or negative, and didn't like the influences their kids were exposed to. Is that representative of most homeschoolers?
