My grand-daughter said her art teacher told the whole class that he can take them over his knee and spank them, because when they are in school he is their father and can spank them.It started because the other art teacher(female)gets very mad at the kids when they don't do what she says, the kids say they don't understand what she wants she is not making herself clear. When they try to do what she says and do it wrong she starts to cry and says she is quiting. Then she runs to the male teacher to deal with the class. She is like this with all grade 7-10 kids.every single class. Now some of the kids don't even want to go to art any more and some have taken up skipping that class. My grand-daughter is worried she is going to be hit,she will not skip like the other kids and she is trying very hard to do what this woman says.

If you like words, and their meanings, and often strive to improve your vocabulary, please tell me ONE or TWO of your favorite words, words that are not commonly used in everyday talk between friends, such as 'egregious', or 'pedantic'. GOTCHA there, didn't I? (Unless you happened to see some of my other questions).

What does 'pedantic' mean? Give me the meaning, and then use it in at least two sentences to show you understand it! Best answer gets that coveted ten points !

Hello,

I took a geology class and I was wondering if that counts towards science GPA?

Also, I've taken college Algebra over in one college and took it again in another college. Say if I got a B- and an A. Do they average the two grades up?

There is no immediate financial incentive, deadline, or other external pressure to motivate me. The internal pressure/incentive comes from wanting to academically achieve more than my parents (older generation), enjoying learning, the challenge of acheiving the highest level of education I can, and yes, the "Dr" sounds good behind my name :) However, I know I will continue postponing it because I'm intimdated by the horror stories, it's a large task and I'm afraid of starting and failing.

Please don't tell me how I don't need to go for it or try to discourage me. I'm looking for tips to mentally push and motivate myself to start the process.

I have a son who is having difficulty with long division. We use Math-U-See, and have followed the instructional video. Each day I sit with him and we go over the problems, and he does the rest on his own. The next day, he forgets. We go over the math problems again, and he does the rest on his own. This has been the process for a few weeks.

For some reason, he is not understanding the concepts enough to remember how to do them. We have tried manipulatives, sitting together, etc. Each day he gets frustrated and overwhelmed. He has no problems understanding multiple digit multiplication, but when I try to help him see that division is just backward multiplying, and showing him what numbers connect where, he still gets frustrated.

Should I just put it away for a time and try again later? Could it be that he is just not there, yet? Do you have any recommendations?

My grand daughter is seven years old and has a reading and language impairment. While my daughter was in labor with her the doctors had discovered that the mothers blood type O positive was attacking the babies blood B negative. My grand daughter was jaundice for a while after she was born and stayed in the hospital for about two weeks. She is being she has been diagnosed with ADHD and is on Concerta. She doesn't sleep and meddles with everything. But she is excited about learning. She's a wiz at math, music, and art. Reading comes hard to her. She's still trying to sound out her words. I just came from an IEP meeting for her. So far the Hooked on Phonics DVD's are interesting to her and she's up to a C reading level. I need to bring her up to an E level. Any suggestions?

Could anyone help to clarify this energizer. I cannot understand the final sentence "send additional rounds of handclaps around the circle, chasing the first" why? and what fun
Pass the beat:
Have all participants form a circle. To introduce the exercise, say: ‘I am going to face and make eye contact with the person on my left, and we will try to clap our hands (or make another noise) at the same moment [demonstrate]. Then, she or he will turn to the left and clap hands at the same time with the person next to her or him. We will “pass the beat” around the circle. Let’s try it now and remember to make eye contact and try to clap (or make the other sound) at the same time.’ The rhythm builds up and the facilitator can call out ‘faster’ or ‘slower’ to increase the speed. Once the handclaps have passed around the circle, say: ‘Now we will try to make the rhythm go faster and faster. Always be ready, because we might send additional rounds of handclaps around the circle, chasing the first.
