This is in reference to buildings. I have read many books, mostly British, where apartment buildings, pubs/taverns, etc. have "Arms" in their names; for instance, The Bradford Arms. Arms seems to be usually associated with apartments and hotels. What does it mean when used like this and does anyone know how this started?

I know that IQ tends to drop over age, but a drop of 30 points in 6 years? I suppose its lack of stimulation over the years - all the schools I've been to are full of idiots (I still like these idiots, but in regards to intelligence, its just the sad truth).

I know its not an accurate measure, 160 is still extremely high, and I should really be concentrating on my goals, rather than my ability to meet those goals, yet I'm still curious.

Can anyone suggest exercises which would help me rebuild this level? I plan to work harder and constantly challenge my brain in the future instead of sitting bored all day, yet is there any exercises in particular you think is useful?

P.S. Yes, as someone else said, I'm overestimating the Yahoo Answers community, yet I've gotten good answers here before and I'm just curious what anyone has to say.

Ok, I have this assignment in my French class to write about what we want to be when we grow up. We have only been learning french for 2 years, so our class's vocabulary is a little bit restricted. Anyways, we were supposed to use past, present, and future tense in it. We were also supposed to say what we wanted to be, a little bit about our personalities, strengths, accomplishments, interests and experiences. This is what I have come up with: IN ENGLISH THEN IN FRENCH:

The school I work for....teachers never read their IEP's, much less follow them...they don't read the ARD paper work or try to understand what it means when they are performing way below grade-level.. I was ambused by teachers claiming that none of their SPED students improved through-out the year. I tried explaining about their IQ scores and the negative standarded deviation..their students IQ's ranged from 75-65 with a standarded deviation that was so low...they were perfoming at a 3 year old level...I was so anger and they told me not to take it personal. But how can I not. I had their students all year...because of this we are now holding teachers accountable...they will now working in our room for CMC, they are responsible for all work and IEP goals, grades..everything will be documented....I am just so angry and I am a first year teacher on top of it all...I am looking for support

I will be entering my junior year of high school in August and I feel it's time I really start to consider my future in terms of college and my career. I am positive I want to enter a career where I am able to write, read, and utilize analytical skills. I have a real love for English and althought I haven't gotten the chance to explore journalism but I thoroughly enjoyed my 8th grade newspaper class.

I seeking advice from those with English or Journalism majors and of course those who are working towards one. What college do you attend? I live in California, do you have any to recommend? What occupations do you want to pursue?

I'm also curious about your experiences as a english or journalism major. Please let me know. <3

Thanks for any help in advance!

“Some people see things that are, and say why? I see things that never were and say why not,” stated by Robert Kennedy.

After learning a whole year about "The American Dream," I must relate this to The American Dream. I believe that the second part of the quote means that if people didn't think why not and set goals to achieve there would be no American Dream. What I don't understand is the beginning of the quote.

My son is almost 9 years old, he has been attending public school. He lives with his father and stepmother and they want to take him out of school to homeschool him. They say that it is for education reasons, because it is the last few weeks of school and he isn't learning anything, just re-cap of the year and for some reason that is a problem for them. I am strongly against the idea, but I have the feeling that we will be going to court eventually, if they try to push it. Another thing that was brought up was school shootings, and in my personal opinion, there are hundreds of thousands of schools in the United States, and only a few known school shootings. Please give me some advantages and disadvantages, I am trying to see this from both sides and keep an open mind, but I don't think anything is going to convince me that homeschool is best. One more thing I should mention, his stepmothers family just inherited a 50 acre farm, they want to move him there (middle of nowhere).

One of the most famous puzzles in the math world is "How Old Is Ann?" Here's another variation. Ann is now exactly two-fifths of her older sister's age, and two years from now she will be one-half of her older sister's age. Conversely, two years ago, Ann was only one-fourth the age of her older sister's age at that time. How old is Ann now? (She's a fairly young child, by the way)
