...and why?

I've only worked in a private school for 1 year, and I find a lot of backstabbing and sucking-up to the principal (because pay raise and promotion does not follow set rules, and favoritism is often the determining factor), disorganized administration, and an extremely strict and stressful environment.

I'm hoping that public schools, or any other school for that matter, are better! I like the students -- it's all the politics and catty-ness that really suck. What has your experience been with school politics?

It is driving me crazy and I don't know how I'll survive this year. If any teachers are looking at this please answer this question: Do teachers ever give homework just to keep students busy? In English, we weigh the grades in Grade Quick with Major as 60 percent, Minor as 30 percent, and Summer Reading as 10 percent. I was always told that, due to the weighting, all assessments under each catergory are weighed the same no matter the amount of points. For instance, if I have a quiz worth 10 points, I was told that it is the same as a quiz worth 100 points. I was wondering if this is true because I would like to make all of my assessments out of 100 no matter how many questions. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
