I hear this constantly and I really wonder.
Being in New Jersey, there is an initiative for all teachers to start at $40k salaries.
Well, for the weeks they work, that pay is comparable to an office worker making about $60k per year for the weeks they work (I estimated a 50-hour work week because I know teachers do more than just 'classroom time' as do corporate workers).
Then comes the benefits. Medical. Pension. Etc.
AND lets not forget that with those summers off, at least in theory, a teacher could work and earn even more money for themselves.
Personally, if I could have almost 3 months vacation I'd take what a teacher gets paid and be a mighty happy camper at my job.

Are there any teachers out there willing to admit that they have a good job? They are paid pretty well? They do have good benefits?

I am taking a course in Americal Sign Language this semester and I have a project due at the end of the semester. Here is the gyst of the assignment:

I have to use sign language to direct a fellow student (with no prior coaching) through step-by-step directions to complete a task. We can do just about anything we want (except no food, drink, hot or dangerous devices) and it has to be at least five minutes in length. We can use any form of non-verbal communication and we cannot use any writing, speaking or fingerspelling.

My topic is due September 28th. I want to do something original, yet still simple enough to get someone to easily understand what I want. I already have a couple of ideas. I was thinking of bringing in a "diaper bag" and a baby doll and having them feed and change a baby. I am also in judo and I was thinking of directing them on how to do a kneeling bow.

I thought I would ask around here to see if any of you would like to contribute any interesting ideas.

so i have to analzye data from my experiment, the teacher asked us to find mean, median, mode, standard deviation q test etc. She also asked what our sample size was and if it was sufficient. I dont understand what she means by sample size, do i pick just any sample from my data?

I often hear and repeat these phrases..be positive..please use your words..
hour of power talks of possibility thinking etc..so I wondered why we refer to all grownups as adults, when that implies adultery and sleazy behaviour.
Words I've heard are powerful, and adults seems so negative, like malicious gossip and depressed ravings.

I am wondering if there is a word to describe the following: guilt felt by a person after a loved one dies, because he/she feels they didn't pray enough for the individual before they passed.

Leaving them thinking that if they prayed longer or harder, the loved one might still be with them.

What knowledge would you share with all mankind, to bring peace to the earth?
What can we learn only from history? What has mankind been looking to as a pattern, too answer questions, if you could make a list of this pattern of all those things you would put your finger on the cause of the woes? And if you could put your finger on what Jesus look to, too answer questions, you would put your finger on the solution.
Take time to think this out, and then what knowledge would you share, if all mankind new this knowledge of yours it would bring about worldwide peace?

Would you prefer a commuting or residential situation? How about a correspondance school/homeschooling program done mostly online? How much would you be willing to pay for each service? What sort of curriculum would you expect? How much time/money/effort would you personally be willing to put in to make it happen?

My own thoughts? A combination of all three possibilities (residential, commutor, and online homeschooling program) would be ideal, with prices adjusted accordingly. I personally could only afford about $300 per month, that's $150 per kid. I wouldn't want to send them to a residential program, but I'd pay that for a commutor program, though I suspect it's worth more. Homeschool wouldn't be an option for me (If I stayed home I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway). I would expect a broad curriculum including comparative religions, fine arts, Latin, literature, natural science, mathematics, pre-college writing, alot of hands-on experience. I'd be willing to put alot into it.

Given that I am contemplating becoming a teacher, I am curious as to why strikes always seem to come up, and especially why it always happens just before school starts.
I would think it would rile up the parents because for so many if their kid isn't in school they are losing a day from work. So that forces parents to push for 'whatever it takes' to get the teachers back in the classrooms.
