Initially I think of the play/musical, but on a cross-country motorcycle ride, I found Oklahoma to be the state with the nicest people. Despite the toll roads surrounding Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma City struck me as being a large enough city to be modern but small enough to be without the sprawl and crime that many larger cities deal with. Of course, I'm just a visitor so I can't comment on everything, but Oklahoma struck me as having a very 'old west' feel, with long dusty highways, the hot sun, and tourst shops along Highway 40/Route 66 promoting Indian souvenirs and buffalos/bisons up close. It also gave the sense that the state was unfortunately shadowed by its larger neighbor Texas, southern neighbor Arkansas, and mid-west neighbors of Missouri and Kansas.

If I can say what sums up Oklahoma, is that it's where the South meets the West, where the old fashioned meets the old west (which really isn't a bad thing at all in my book).
