I was wondering what sort of financial aid is available for me. IHere's all the information I can think of that might be relevant:
I'm going to be a sophomore, and my mom died June 29th. Also, if it helps any she had two liver transplants prior to her death. I'm a Near Eastern Studies major (focus in Persian language) with minors in political science and philosophy who will be transferring to a community college for the fall to be with my family, then hopefully transferring to Ohio State Winter Quarter. I'm Jewish, speak French, and am learning Hebrew, Persian, Arabic, and German. I'm also a recovered bulimic and bisexual. I'm looking for scholarships not contingent on grades, since my grades last semester weren't great due to my mother's illness. My dad's ex-military. My career goals are either government, non-profit, or to become a professor. Could anyone help me? I've tried a few search engines but none have really given me good results.

It's simple. While I enjoy teaching, I'm starting to really feel burned out ...badly. In my disctrict, we've stopped "teaching" and instead are merely prepping kids for their annual state-based minimum competency test (TAKS, in Texas). This is just knocking the wind right out of my sails...the kids are getting ripped-off (and don't know it, of course) and the work load and stress levels for teachers are becoming insane.

Any ideas how I can recharge my batteries, or get a fresh perspective on this? How many of you have had to, or are also going though, the same thing in your schools? (Where do you teach?)

Thanks, in advance!

Children in my sons class were fooling around and my son accidentally fell against another lad..who said it wasn't my sons fault..The teacher walked up to my son and said " You have brought the back end of Hull with you (We use to live there) and its about time you learnt to read, you are thick" ..this has been verified by another student as truth..

I am curious to know how far we can go with this. I will start with one word. The next person continues the sentence with one word and if it continues for long enough, could we write a short story.
Just associate your word with the previous one. I will try to piece a draft together if enough people join in.

recently purchased the first trade paperback printing (April 2006) of this book. On page 18, the author is discussing some anectodal research. Following is a quote from the book:

But we had evidently stumbled into Grammar Greek Alley, and there was nothing we could do. "Of course I punctuate my text messages, I did A-level English," one young man explained, with a look of scorn.

My question is this: Is it incorrect to place a comma between the two independent clauses "Of course I punctuate my text messages" and "I did A-level English,"? Should it be a period or a semi-colon? I was taught that separating two independent clauses with a comma was called a "comma splice" and is incorrect. From my understanding the author is quoting what was heard and is not quoted from any text the speaker had written. Please enlighten me. Thank you.
