i have a son who has mmd (mild mental developement) and he is going into 6th grade, he has a 2end grade reading level i have tried everything to help him, he also gets help in school but am wanting to know what i can do over summerbreak to help him improve his reading but without forcing it on him and to be interesting to him

He said that my child did not qualify to have an initial eval done to see if child could qualify for special ed services, because child is not in special ed and not covered under IDEA.
To me this is saying that a child has to ALREADY be in special ed before they can see if they QUALIFY for special ed.
I"ve already gotten this cleared up, just wanting to see what others think.

In 1996-1997, I was 13 and in 7th grade, the grade in which Texas students were required to learn Texas history. My teacher was this good-looking, dark-haired, light-eyed man of 6'5" who still holds the title of "the only man Iris ever loved" because I've still never even had a 1st date! But my OCD mind has trouble sleeping because of this fear I developed around the time of Hurricane Rita last year -- that among all his knowledge of Texas history IS NOT the fact that in 1900 a hurricane wiped out Galveston! What if he goes through life thinking that NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND HAS A HURRICANE TOUCHED PRESENT-DAY TEXAS? How do I set him straight if he wants nothing to do with me? He never answers my letters or emails and would hang-up his phone at the sound of my voice, not to mention the fact that while 10 years ago he lived here around Houston he has since moved to Austin. I REFUSE to drive 200 miles to have him to ignore me. How do I let him know that Texas can get hurricanes?
