I have travelled a lot and in my opinion service is unheard off. I'm talking about sit down dining. It seems that fast food places are offering better service in the long run.

I live La Porte, TX. As you can imagine living in the Galveston Bay Area, there are lots of seafood restaurants to chose from and we've tried many of them. The best food and atmosphere I have found is at Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen located in Seabrook, TX. They usually have a long waiting list but it well worth it. My wife and I usually order the Papadeaux Platter to share since it's so large. I also love the seafood gumbo. They have a great beverage menu too!

At a restaurant, is it rude to order the same dish someone at the table has already ordered (as it narrows everyone's tasting possibilities) or is it rude to pressure someone to order their second-choice dish in order to have a wide variety of dishes at the table?

(I'm not talking about formal business meals with clients, of course)

Why do people believe they do not have to tip on takeout orders from a restaurant? Who do you think took your order off the phone, put it through to the kitchen, bagged up your salad, your dressing, your bread, everything extra you asked for (ketchup, sour cream,....). Then we bag it up take care of your check. All this time we are busy with other tables and now there is not tip!? CRAZY We're not asking for 20% but some kind of tip is expected at a restaurant where the waitress took your order and put it together(please remember we get payed $2 - 4 an hour) So if all you ordered was a burger, don't worry about it, if you ordered appetizers, dinners, desserts whatever..you better tip your waitress!!

BTW about half the people I serve tip on takeout orders, and they leave about 10%, depends on the order

I really want to understand now that you know how much work takeout orders require, why you would not tip??

If you did your business by phone, would you stop all phone calls until you took care of my call? If you owned a store, would you stop all customers from coming in until I finished my shopping? Then why don't people stop to think about holding a business meeting in a restaurant that can last up to 2 hours or more? A servers station is their place of business. A lunch hour doesn't last for very long and in order to make money we must turn over a certain amount of tables. When you camp out at a table all afternoon, you are keeping that server from turning over that table and making another tip or two. If you must meet there ( instead of your place of business) and if you take up that table for 2 hours or more, why don't you think to compensate the server for the time you took away her business? I mean think about it, if you were to rent a meeting room somewhere if would cost you a hell of alot more than the five dollar tip you left her (or him).

...some of the best food comes from those cheap little places that cost you 5-6 bucks for a meal that 2 people could share?

And then you go to some gourmet restaurant and they have tiny portions of weird food that's not even that great for like 30 bucks... what's up with that?

if you go to a restaurant does the hostess affect how you feel about the restaurant you are dining at even if your server is exceptional?

Basing a server's tip on meal price is unfair to those who work the breakfast shift or who work in reasonably priced restaurants. Is there a better system that could be developed?

When a waitress is being friendly, flirty, or chatty, with a solitary male customer, how often would you say she is being genuinely friendly or flirty, vs being fake-friendly or flirty just to sweeten him up for a big tip?

I used to go Hooters a lot when one first opened in my town. It didn't take me very long to realize that they were just being sweet on guys to get big tips. It was terribly "convenient" and "coincidental" how about a half dozen of them just "happened" to have SO much of the exact same things "in common" with me. Yeah, right... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I have had waitresses be nice to me in other restaurants, as well, but it's kind of difficult to discern who is being genuine and who is not, at other establishments.

I went to the same bar for over 8 years. I used to talk to the female bartender often. I quit going about two years ago. I popped in there the other day, and that same bartender chick did not remember who I was! That hurt

Let's say your in the mall one day and you see this stand that' says 'Get easy money!' Now knowing that the poor guy dosen't have a chance to get anyone to come to his stand you go over there to give him some adivce on how to make it better.Right when you about to say hello he says "You will die in seven days." You are about to ask him what did he just say but then he jogs out of the building. Next you go to a security gaurd and tell him what just happened. Finally, after a long moment of silence the security gaurd says "You will die in seven days"and walks away. Now you starting to get a little mad because everybody keeps saying that to you. After taking three deep breaths you decide to go home. Right as you are walking out the door a little sweet, innocent looking girl with a big lolli pop in her hand says"You will die in seven days" and walks out of the building.
What would you do now that three people have said you will die in seven days?
