mine's has to be the internet, and alas when it was launched back in 1995 or whatever, nobody could've predicted it would be that big, influential and to make a huge impact on our daily lives. can you imagine life without the internet and sending off mail by post instead of a click of the mouse, or not having the opportunity to communicate and interact with people all over the world ? yeah, neither can i. yes it can have its faults, but its just a brilliant and amazing invention that ever existed

we used to have a cambridge soundworks surround sound speakers system on our home desktop. we moved, the plug for the system is lost, and now i really want sound, so i plugged some desktop speakers into the back of the computer, plugged them in, turned them on. no sound. i already checked the volume on the system is on (not muted) and changed the speaker system from 5.1 to desktop speakers through control panel. still nothing.

can anyone PLEASE tell me what to check next, i really want sound on my computer!! (incidentally, when i plug headphones in through the usb port, we get sound ... i unplugged them though, just in case it was interfering with speakers).

thanks!

It used to be that you could plug in something and it didn't matter which pole went into which outlet hole in the wall. Now many plugs have one side slightly bigger than the other so it will only fit one way. Why is this if the current is AC and so it doesn't matter which plug goes into which hole?

My burnt DVDs either breakup or stop when played. Thinking it may be my burner, I bought a new LG duel layer burner. The result is the same. I have tried different brands of blanks with the same result. I have three DVD players in the house, one is the new Panasonic 400gb recorder purchased two weeks ago. The burnt DVDs act the same on all the machines. I tried two software packages, Super DVD copy and Nero. This did not help. I've run out of options. Is the software I'm using no good or are the blanks just crap??
