I bought a Sony DVD surround sound system which included the DVD player and all of the speakers. For about the first half hour it's on, it will work fine, but then a crackling noise starts up along with some static noises and it gets worse the longer you leave it on. I've had it for almost two years now... help!

I have never heard any boston home audio. i have boston flagships in my car, and it is some of the clearest cripest, most clean sound i have ever heard. i love it. i dont buy anything but boston speakers in my car. however my home speakers are differnt. no one sales boston around here, so i went with klipsch referance. i currently have RB-5's in the front RB-35 on the sides, and i am looking into a center channel. i know i dont want anything less then a RC-35 or a RC-5, but i am very interested in what a boston center channel might sound like. right now i have a infinity primus and its by far the weakest link in my surrond sound. so any of you that have heard both boston and klipsch, which did you like better, why ect. if i buy a boston its going to be off ebay, so when i plug it in will be the first time i hear boston home theater. so needless to say, i really dont want to loose any money on this if i dont like it as much as the klipsch.

Thanks guys and girls.

I was reading a DVD discussion forum, and I noticed people saying "Disc" and "Disk." Beyond the spelling, is there a difference between those two things? If so, what is it? Thanks!

I got a region 2 DVD and a region 3 DVD today in the mail

My X-box won't play either one

I tried the region 2 on our old DVD player (c. 2002) and it worked fine. I haven't tried the region 3 yet.

So I'm wondering, aside from X-box, do DVD players in the US play any region coding or just specific DVD players... and if it's specific DVD players, what should I look for on the box that will let me know it'll work?

I am planning to buy a pair of stereo speakers for listening to music.
I would like to know which speaker is better for Acoustic and Alternative rock music, Floor-standing or bookshelf speakers with sub-woofer? I also need a good amplifier to power them, model and brand. Although musical taste is highly subjective, I would like to know a general consensus.

I need to run about 50 ft of cable. There is an opening at the beginning and end of my run. It also runs into a closet about halfway between the two ends. Basically, is there some sort of tool I can use to pull the cable through?

I really don't want a 5.1 home theater, just a 2-channel stereo system that sounds good for the least amount of money. What would be the least expensive NEW components I can get that will still sound good. Here's an itemized list of what I want to get:

- SPEAKERS 1 pair

- 2 CHANNEL INTEGRATED AMP

- CD/DVD/SACD PLAYER

- 10' SPEAKER CABLE, 1 pair

- 1M INTERCONNECTS 2 pair

- AC LINE CONDITIONER w/6 outlets

Can I do it for under a Grand? Under $500? Or, is that I cannot get good sound from a stereo system for any less than $2,500? As long as it is brand new and sounds good, the cheaper the better. If you want to include a powered subwoofer, that's fine too.

Looking for a cheap but reliable and good quality portable dvd player. I watch a lot of foreign movies so subtitles need to be legible. Seem to see a lot of decent priced cobys - never heard of the brand. Is it good and reliable?

I want it for a relatively large room (so the bigger the possible screen size before being washed out, the better). I'd also like to handle as high a resolution as possible.
My budget limit is probably $4K, but I could be persuaded to go a bit higher

Most stereo components are connected using 1/4" RCA cables. The jacks on the back of my DVD player labelled "component video" look to be for the same type of cable. Is that correct? Can I use the RCA cables I've already got to plug my DVD player's "component video outs" into my TV?

My husband has 2 big speakers that he bought from a friend. The hookups in the back of the speakers are the kind that you stick wires into, you know the blue and black tabs where you lift up the tab and stick the wire that is running off of the main stereo into. These are the only types of jacks that are on the speakers. But since we don't have a stereo to hook up to the speakers, I would like to hook them up to my tv or dvd player. But my tv/dvd player has the jacks that have to have the red/white/yellow audio cables running from the tv/dvd player to the outside source. Is there such thing as an adapter that I can buy that can convert these kinds of cables into the kind I need for the speakers? Or will it work if I just take the audio/video cables that are coming out of my tv/dvd player and strip them and put the wires into the speakers? I hope I explained this clearly enough, it's kinda complicated I know.

I'm building my own HTPC. I have a 63 HDTV and want the best picture that I can see. Asus has a card that offers HDMI output but I was thinking about buying a Nvidia 7900GT which has DVI. I currently use a cable box that has a HDMI output, but in the past I used one that was DVI and I didn't see any difference. Should I see a difference and does HDMI really provide anything other than needing a more expensive cable?
