I really don't want a 5.1 home theater, just a 2-channel stereo system that sounds good for the least amount of money. What would be the least expensive NEW components I can get that will still sound good. Here's an itemized list of what I want to get:

- SPEAKERS 1 pair

- 2 CHANNEL INTEGRATED AMP

- CD/DVD/SACD PLAYER

- 10' SPEAKER CABLE, 1 pair

- 1M INTERCONNECTS 2 pair

- AC LINE CONDITIONER w/6 outlets

Can I do it for under a Grand? Under $500? Or, is that I cannot get good sound from a stereo system for any less than $2,500? As long as it is brand new and sounds good, the cheaper the better. If you want to include a powered subwoofer, that's fine too.

i would say in the range of 1000-1500. but if you really want good stuff, go to a private shop, and not best buy. you can listen to brands like klipsch referance, and then buy them for cheap on ebay. get a set of towers, and a great reciver and you should be set.

Why a 2 channel intergrated amp?
A stereo receiver would be better and probably cheaper. Try Best Buy or Circuit City.
Online try e-bay or crutchfield . com, they even have people who will actually help you and answer any of your questions. You get what you pay for. You should be able to get a good system for $500 to $1,000.

I have a kick *** 5.1 system with speakers and all I don't think I have spent more than a few hundred on, focus on the amp, otherwise buy cheap,. e.g. a cd player is only as good as the amp you are playing it through
