Looking for a cheap but reliable and good quality portable dvd player. I watch a lot of foreign movies so subtitles need to be legible. Seem to see a lot of decent priced cobys - never heard of the brand. Is it good and reliable?

Never heard of it,[ in the U.S.] Sorry, I would say no unless you get a extended warranty from the store, just in case

Very cheap. The picture quality is okay, but the features are weak and the build quality is unsatisfactory. If you remember the Yugo, then you have an idea about the Coby brand.

I recommend spending at least $50 to around $100 to get a good DVD player that you will be able to enjoy without kicking yourself for later on for saving just a few bucks for a player that will be frustrating to live with.

Stick with the name brands like JVC, Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, etc. If you've never heard of the brand, and the price is super low, then expect the quality to be substandard.

You can compare prices online to get the lowest price on a decent DVD player. Here are a few comparison shopping sites to browse. Also, customer reviews are helpful as well (i.e. Audio Review, etc.).

I have a JVC combo DVD/VCR player that I bought brand new for about $100 and I'm quite satisfied with its ease of use along with its quality performance and surprisingly long list of features.
