The simple answer is... "They aren't"
As a salesperson and technician for several years, I can tell you that Bose is not a quality electronics company, they ARE a quality MARKETING company. They have thrust their name into your face so often and for so long, that is the first name most people think of. They make cheap products and charge a HUGE profit margin, so as a salesperson, I was MORE than happy to show and sell Bose to those that weren't informed, but for people that take music seriously, I NEVER even showed or mentioned them in conversation. The joke around the store (other than Bose themselves) is "No High's, all Low's, it Must be Bose!" They have a pretty significant frequency drop off at the point where the cube speakers can't handle the lower frequencies, and the bass module can't handle the higher frequencies, so you just end up with boomy, mushy, muddled sound. That isn't to say that their bass boosting technology isn't well designed. The uninformed consumer will say "I want the system that I can FEEL in my CHEST, because THAT is what makes good music" which means most people honestly think that loud bass is what makes good music, and Bose is among the best for BOOM!

Hope that helps!

Well, that's a funny question. I've been a consumer of electronic components, accessories, and speakers for well over a score of years now and I have not found any Bose so-called "music systems" superior to any comparatively priced Yamaha, Denon, Bang & Olufsen, Bowers & Wilkins, Klipsch, Outlaw, Pioneer, Sony, Onkyo, Kenwood, Boston Acoustics, etc., etc. Actually, quite the contrary.

I have auditioned quite a few Bose products over the years, and I could never bring myself to purchasing any of them (even though when I had visited a Bose store in a mall and the salesperson was most helpful and persuasive, my ears couldn't deny the simple fact that it didn't sound that good), especially for the price.

Unless you're talking about their marketing skills, advertising, and packaging, and the number of patents they own, and perhaps their profits, then I would have to agree with you 100% on those aspects that they are their superior.

Don't compare HTIB form Denon and Yamaha. Try using a Yamaha and Denon Receiver with separate speakers. That will make Bose even suck more.
Read reviews about Bose and you see why they are not so good.
"just tiny speaker that can handle high volumes"-not accurate-lacks response time etc...try to listen to a single and strait 2 channel stereo running Bose and a Yamaha or Denon receiver with 2 speakers to hear why audio enthusiast and audiophiles prefer:(Denon Yamaha PioneerElite Marantz Arcam Integra Outlaw etc... and hate Bose "keep the A/V taste healthy"

I don't agree that they are superior, only more expensive.
The Bose system uses a phenomina called "psycho accustics" which fools your ears into hearing things that aren't there. The problem is, after a while your ears learn to recognise it and are no longer fooled. You may notice that most dealers display their Bose products seperately from the other speakers they may carry. This is so you can't make an A/B comparison. If you could, you would immediately hear a substantial difference in sound quality and would purchase anything other than the Bose system.
There are many, many sub/satellite speaker systems on the market that are less money and far superior than the Bose speakers.

Bose systems are not superior to comparatively priced systems. Bose engineers its sound so that it appeals to most listeners when listened to under ideal conditions. That's why you will find Bose systems shown under strictly controlled conditions. Further, in my listening experience, Bose has huge gaps in the audio range due to the fact that they use such small speakers. Speakers are subject to the laws of physics and a small speaker can produce only so much sound. Bose seems to compensate for this by engineering a spike in the low end, which most people believe makes the system sound powerful. in the speaker world, size as well as weight matters. Larger speakers placed in well built heavy cabinets will almost always produce better sound. Many manufacturers other than Bose make such speakers. But for size, Bose is hard to beat.

Not sure why, but Bose systems sound awesome. I have the Bose Lifestyle Series 28 II, the sound just permeates the room. Thinking of getting an add-on for downstairs for the Home Gym area!

Who says they are superior? I find Bose sound is not natural it has excessive highs and punchy bass not very much of absolute lows. The cubes are very poor in sound and don't come any where close to tower speakers especially like those of JBL. JBL towers have very balanced sound ie. all frequencies equal db. People took a liking to Bose because they are small in size and save floor space. Please check out the control monitor series of JBL, and even Yamaha, Dennon, B&O tower speakers. Even the 901 of Bose did not impress me.

it's due to the the quality of the materials used in the construction of the equipment, and the way it's constructed.

There are a lot of music systems that are mass produced and just built quickly, but Bose systems gets built in control environments, and the people building take their time, they're still mass produced, but but so much.

It is primarily the acoustic designing that goes into the arraignment of the setup and the Bose speaker box design!
