Software - March 2007

It looks like 2-3 people in class are getting it because they've been working in the field.
When this happens, what do you do?
I cannot read ahead b/c I don't know what to prepare for.
He just talks about whatever that pops up in his head.
The subject is too board for one to prepare for.

Considering that Vista is not only very expensive, but that much of the software and hardware wont work with it, why do people put up with it?

I hate it it drives me nutz! I have AVG and Spybot so i just feel I dont need this. i have a Vista. I have gone to control panel and uninstall programs but I dont see it listed there???

can avi files be converted into mpg or mpeg files cause on my comp avi files don't play.I have downloade VLC player and divX player but still they don't play but mpeg's play fine....so can avi be turned into mpeg...if yes how?
sometimes when i play the avi files there is the picture but lines are in between and at times theres no pictures at all!!

I have ordered a new laptop with Windows Vista, and am now concerned that I will not be able to access the internet with a wireless card. I do not have a landline, and expected to use this as my only method. Should I cancel the order and order a laptop with Windows XP?

whenever i go to add/remove programs it wont let me uninstall what do i do now i need to reinstall it b/c whenever i play yahoo pool and im going into a room all i see is white and when i exit out of that window it acts all stupid and closes all of my internet explorer programs so im thinking i need to reinstall java any thoughts?

I have tried to do a repair install of Win Xp but it freezes at the completing installation stage(23 minutes). Before, i did use task manager to change the priority setting for winlogon else it will take forever to install. After a few tries the end lines of setupapi.log is the same...

when i am playing counter strike game or any other game i am facing this error "hl.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

i tried to restore my e-mails from acronis home 10 and when i did and started outlook 2003 again it says "the path specified for the file C:\documents and settings\devon\local settings\application date\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst and archive.pst" and it wont start i have tried the repair and also uninstalled and reinstalled and it does nothing what do i do???

I would like to open Openoffice writer and other openoffice applications from the "run" command line of Windows XP. When I type in "swriter" I get an unknown path error. I was forced to reinstall 98, my disk was an upgrade, and I had to install 3.11 first, before I could install 3.11 I had to install dos.

Regarding full scan - When I have scanned in the past, I did not have all the boxes checked, such as deep scan and temporary files. Today I scanned everything and got almost 7000 error messages. I immediately scanned again (everything) and the list of errors numbered 110. Another scan revealed 11 errors and a fourth scan told me I has 10 errors. All low priority and temporary files in those final two scans. My question is, shall I check ALL boxes when I scan my computer each time?

Since I am a paid customer, will Registy Mechanic run as well if I don't bother to renew the subscription? If you do advise my renewing, will Registry Mechanic be improving the program significantly enough in the next few months to warrant paying for the upgrade? Or...is there a better registry cleaner available. I already tried CCleaner, but they found so many programs that were familiar and important that I didn't want to delete something I needed.

I found this operating system on the internet called ReactOS. It seems to be a good operating system because it is free and it is able to natively run windows applications. They are currently getting there source code audited. I want to use this but not sure on the legality. Is there any other linux operating system that runs windows applications? Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to get some computers to run decently with out Windows.

yeah, i know its ilegal. anyways to decrease the chances of getting caught(which is very small in the first place), hypothtically, i i had to download 100 songs (i really dont have that many), is it better to download them all at once or spread them out over a period of time.
