Considering that Vista is not only very expensive, but that much of the software and hardware wont work with it, why do people put up with it?

Consumer ignorance. Lots of people have a hard time with computers anyway, and they're so used to blaming the computer for their own logical errors, that Vista's problems don't make much of an impact. They just think the most expensive thing will work best.

Some people have the need to have the latest and greatest Windows Operating system. I can understand how Vista like any new operating system can be a pain in the neck.

I have adopted the policy of waiting about 6 to 8 months after the new operating system comes out. It normally takes 6 to 8 months for 3rd party software vendors to make their software fully compatible with the new operating system and it also gives Microsoft for example time to work any bugs that maybe still in the software via Windows Updates.

Hi Loyal,

I didn't put up with it.

After reviewing it and the problems I stayed with XP.

I am very tired of testing products for Microsoft. I understand an operating system is very complex and I will give them another year or so to develop it before I venture into it. The main features of Vista are "eye candy" and I am happy with XP.

It's too young an OS to use. I would wait maybe 2-3 years for it to be debugged. The nerdy gadget-geeks will love it tho.

Maybe it was "bundled" with their computers and they would have to buy XP.

Personally, I think that the average user, we "little guys," don't need all the bells and whistles offered but many users have a need to "keep up with the Jones."
