can avi files be converted into mpg or mpeg files cause on my comp avi files don't play.I have downloade VLC player and divX player but still they don't play but mpeg's play fine....so can avi be turned into mpeg...if yes how?
sometimes when i play the avi files there is the picture but lines are in between and at times theres no pictures at all!!

You can download the codecs for other types of files such as divx. I use roxio media creator to convert to different file types, but it's not free software. I recommend just downloading the codecs which should allow you to play the file.

Yes you could simply Convert your AVI files to Mpeg, and vice versa, there are a lot of softwares available for this purpose, you could simply do a websearch (Key Word " Avi to Mpeg Converters" )and search, you can get a whole lot of User friendly , license free softwares

If you are running Windows XP and have Windows Media Player installed, the .avi files should play OK. Try loading the .avi files into Windows Movie Maker and see if they will play there. Movie Maker is part of Windows XP. Movie Maker can then save the .avi files in a different format.
