I have tried to do a repair install of Win Xp but it freezes at the completing installation stage(23 minutes). Before, i did use task manager to change the priority setting for winlogon else it will take forever to install. After a few tries the end lines of setupapi.log is the same...

Can anyone help pls? I used the old product key for my XP but another CD.

you need the original disk. the program won't properly install if you use a different cd than the product key is for. if you need some really good help, go to the computer club website on the microsoft system. do a search from msn.com and register. (free) then use the belarc adfvisor to determine everything about your system (and i mean everything) and save it to your desktop. then send it as an attachment when you post a question to the general board of the computer club website. they can solve, or help solve just about any problem.

"Haste Makes Waste"! This is a classic case of what happens when you try to take shortcuts when it is inappropriate to do so. "Takes forever"? Famous last words of those who are in too big of a hurry to do it right! Here is a wise old proverb: "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, you will have to do it over again!" By the time you figure out whats wrong with the way you are trying to do a repair, you could have done a new clean install. (About 90 min.)
