I have an old Dell that has been upgraded several times. At the moment I cannot boot it up. It starts at the main boot screen but freezes on the wallpaper screen and does nothing else. I have tried to boot it in safe mode and everything else i can think of. I beleive the current OS is not working properly. I want to try to erase the harddrive completely and then reinstall windows XP and everything else. but I don't know what I need to do if I can't boot it up completely. I have also though about buying a new harddrive, but i don't want to spend the money if the PC is a lost cause. So does anyone have any ideas?

File or Directory corrupted unabe to continue.
I found the file but have been unable to delete it. I have tried most of the things you all sugested Delete, Rename, Drag to recycle, Move folder, re-install original program, Overwrite the file, Move to removable disk, Delete in safe mode.) While it is in C:/ I can not de-frag.
Any one got any other ideas except for re-installing windows as I have never done it before.
Thanks

When I'm typing in Word on my laptop, the cursor keeps going back to a previous point in the document, sometimes when I'm in the middle of a word, and often without my noticing, so that i'm overwriting previously typed text. This is very annoying when I'm transcribing from a tape, as I lose text and often can't remember what it said, so I have to rewind the tape and retype sometimes quite a large amount. This only seems to happen with laptops and not PCs. Why does it happen and can it be stopped? If so, how?

I keep getting the 'blue screen of death' after just 5 or 10 minutes of use.
I'm trying to run logic audio 5 on a P4 2.4ghz, with 512mb of RAM, which should be enough to deal with this program. The most common error messages I get are:
-PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA
-DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL
and some others...
Can anyone give me some advice on what this means, what is causing it and how I can stop this from happening?
The PC deals with other tasks like internet etc, and only crashes every 5 hours or so. But with logic it just goes to pieces!
