They can and productive is relative. I suggest going to a reputable dealer instead. I am a cheap so and so and I go to one place to at least check prices before I get anything. This place gets the older hardware, usually things that are about to be discontinued for the newer models and the savings they make are passed on to you. Check it out. And best of all you get a warrantee that ebay never gives. On ebay you can get ripped off real easy by some of the fly by nighters out there

I fix PCs and Macs. In a professional shop.
In the past two weeks, students at the Audio and VideoGraphics School near here have brought in five laptops that were toast that they bought off of eBay.
In each case, the seller knew or should have known, from the erratic behavior, that the laptops were suffering fatal problems.
Another person bought an expensive Airport card, and it even smelled like it was smoked!
I recommend that you purchase a new, or a used, laptop, and components, that have warranties, from your local stores.
I shop the refurbs at http://Apple.com and http://cheaptronicsdepot.com because both have full warranties.
Especially with the Sony battery problems!

There is no right or wrong answer, it depends on the seller. I've purchased lots of things off eBay. Some thing work, some don't. Play it safe and pay via paypal. That way, if there's a problem, you're more protected. Some sellers are honest, some are not.

I really do not know I would however sugget reading every word on the page.i have looked for lap tops on ebay and they would say stuff like no hard drive at the bottom or the shipping would be more than it would cost to buy anew lap top. Be careful.

Best advice I can give you check their feedback and percentage score. Get a good make and try to avoid buying from abroad as you'll have more rights. Buy using credit card and keep all email etc for you to make a claim in you need to.

if you are unsure, you could always ask the seller the specific questions you need to be answered.
