File or Directory corrupted unabe to continue.
I found the file but have been unable to delete it. I have tried most of the things you all sugested Delete, Rename, Drag to recycle, Move folder, re-install original program, Overwrite the file, Move to removable disk, Delete in safe mode.) While it is in C:/ I can not de-frag.
Any one got any other ideas except for re-installing windows as I have never done it before.
Thanks

Do start-run then chkdsk c: /f
This is WinXp's version of scandisk. You should get a box stating that it cannot be run now and would you like to run it on the next restart - say yes and reboot.

Remove all TSR's from memory except Explorer and Systray. Do this by pressing Ctrl Alt Del and selecting the program to remove, and then click on End Task.
Disable any Anti-virus programs (should be done by following the above procedure).
Run scandisk, and correct any erroneous files automatically.
Try running defragmenter now. It should work.
If it does not work, turn off your computer. Re-boot and start it in safe mode and follow the above procedure.
If you start it in DOS from a bootable disk run chkdsk first before booting up windows.

It would be a lot easier to reinstalll windows. (its so easy) just make sure any pictures, files and settings are put on a disk or moved to another computer. (or if you have a second partition, like D, move them there and only reinstal C drive.) Using either the disks that came with or you made, or better yet click on recovery and follow the directions for reinstalling just C drive.

Have you tried defragging in Safe Mode?
Delete cookies and temporary files, run chkdsk, Spybot, Ad-Aware and virus scan. Restart in Safe Mode then Defrag.
Good luck.

Depends very much on what the file is .. it might be a windows system file which is in use.
Drop me a message and I will see if i can think of anything.

I had same problem with file my sister downloaded from limewire. I'm afraid I can't help you much - I had to back up all of my important documents, then wipe and re-install windows.
