Well first of all you will need a full version of Windows XP on a bootable CD.

That's the only thing you really need, as you can just re-install Windows over an existing installation - however the best thing to do is a fresh format of your hard drive, wipe everything, and start from scratch.

So it would also be handy to have the driver disks for everything in your PC as you will need to reinstall these after Windows. If you don't have them or can't find them, download them and burn them to disk before you start your fresh installation as it's a catch-22 to be stuck without a network adapter driver and therefore not be able to get on the internet to download it...
So you'll need things like audio and video drivers, and also get little programs like Adobe Reader, anything like that that you use.
Also - if you have a SATA hard drive you will need the driver for that on a floppy disk to install during Windows setup, otherwise Windows will not be able to detect your hard drive.

Likewise, you will also need to burn to disk any files that you want to keep. Any documents, photos, music, videos, saved files from programs or games. Get them onto a CD-R, DVD-R, removable disk, internet storage, whatever you have.

Whether you're formatting the hard drive or not, it would be a good idea to back up files and drivers anyway, just in case anything goes wrong.

Then you'll need to boot from the Windows CD, which may involve changing the boot priority order in your BIOS settings - your PC usually just boots from the hard drive, you need to make sure it is checking the CD drive to give you the option to boot from CD. This is done by pressing the appropiate key on the BIOS screen (the text that appears right after you switch your PC on) to get into the settings. Somewhere you will be able to set your CD drive as the primary boot drive. Then put your Windows CD in the drive, it should detect it and boot it.

Then you have Windows setup and it's pretty much straightforward from there. Like I mentioned, you will need to hit F6 when it prompts you to install a SATA driver if one is needed, and you have the option of installing over your existing installation, or formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch. Depends why you're reinstalling really. Installing over will fix certain problems with settings, formatting before installing will fix all problems (at least it should!) and will generally make your PC run faster because it clears all the rubbish that accumulates on your hard drive!

That's maybe a little detailed, but I hope it helps!

Installation is quite simple if it is going to be used in the home. However it can get quite complicated if installing in an enterprise environment. If your installing only 1 pc then just place the CD and do a attended install. If your installing on multiple then do a unattend install using setup manager which is found on the XP disk.

But as I say depending on how you want to deploy the application varys in complexities.
