my son inserts floppy disc half way and attends to browsing..he isertsfully the floppy when ever he needs it. is not this procedure harmful to computer

No it is not harmful, not at all, even if it is, the damage is to the floppy drive device only. It is less than $15 anew if you want it replaced, but I have been without floppy for happily more than 2 years.

I inserted half way to the mechanical spring loader when I had floppy, it was OK to do, never had problem that way.

I'm not sure I know what you're on about. Floppy discs aren't really used that often. The idea is to push it all the way into the floppy disc drive until you hear and click. Its a good idea to make sure you have the machine on at this point. If you mean he has it poking half way out until he needs it nope not a prob to the machine.
