What do I do to get it back to normal. I have important files on this computer and I am unable to access them. The start button doesn't even appear. I am using Windows XP Home Edition

There is no diagnostic info on the screen. I that normal for a BSod

Your computer may have crashed or has a virus. Turn it off and let it reboot. Maybe it just needs a repair

When you boot the computer and you see the Windows splash screen hit F8, this will give you a menu of choices. Select "last known configuration" and hit enter. If that does not work, insert your Windows CD and boot from it then chose to repair your windows install.

Buy a 2nd hard disk, re-install WIndows, then copy data from the old harddisk to the new one. Keep the old harddisk as a backup till the new Windows installation got trashed again.

If all you have is a blue screen, how did you manage to ask a question???

Might be time for a new monitor - they do go bad..
