What are good sites for free stuff in the United States? Without answering surveys :-)

I was trying to do some 'self-fixing' on my computer, to find out how to make my computer go faster (re: programs running in the background), and I read online that you could run "task manager" or go to "RUN" and type in "msconfig" and delete programs that are running, that you don't need?? Well, to my surprise, I went on to delete and disable a lot of these programs, BUT, I guess I deleted my IP address, through Task Manager, I'm guessing, and I can't find out how to get it back!! I called my internet service provider (Shaw Cable) and they said I had to bring it in to a repair guy who can reinstall something on my "network card"?? I don't know..anyway, I want to find out if anyone knows how I can get my IP addy back, and get back online, because I am at work, using my work computer to find out how else I can do this.....without having to bring my computer into the shop.

It was working it came on automatically with a cd spinning beside my arrow. We have had a lot af errors we have been trying to fix could we have deleted something?everything i go to sas it is working properly.
