I was trying to do some 'self-fixing' on my computer, to find out how to make my computer go faster (re: programs running in the background), and I read online that you could run "task manager" or go to "RUN" and type in "msconfig" and delete programs that are running, that you don't need?? Well, to my surprise, I went on to delete and disable a lot of these programs, BUT, I guess I deleted my IP address, through Task Manager, I'm guessing, and I can't find out how to get it back!! I called my internet service provider (Shaw Cable) and they said I had to bring it in to a repair guy who can reinstall something on my "network card"?? I don't know..anyway, I want to find out if anyone knows how I can get my IP addy back, and get back online, because I am at work, using my work computer to find out how else I can do this.....without having to bring my computer into the shop.
I would really appreciate any help in this matter. I can also be emailed at: argamedius@yahoo.com

Thanx.

I think I actually deleted something to do with my damn 'sound', too. I can't seem to get the sound on my PC, either!! UUUuughh...my computer runs REALLY FAST now, BUT, I found out I no longer have an IP Addy, sound, the Internet, nor can I run some of the programs on my computer, AND the computer comes up with a blue screen with "fatal error" on it, when I try to do a "system recovery" (It won't allow me to erase everything and bo back to the day I purchased it now!!)....

Did I KILL my computer????? Is there ANY hope for this blasted thing????

H-E-L-P!

Calm down! You cant "delete" an IP address, because IP addresses are dynamic and another one will be assigned. Go back to msconfig, and put check marks back in all your programs and reboot.
Then, one at a time, slowly take them out rather that kill all of them at once. One of them likely helped you get online.
A new IP address will be assigned to your computer by powering off your cable modem and router (if you have a router) for two minutes and then turn them back on.

Take a deep breath and relax.

You haven't killed your computer, and everything you've done is fixable. You would most likely need to first repair your windows (assuming thats the operating system you are using) installation. If you have a Windows CD, insert it and click on the option that would repair your installation.

If this doesn't work, you may have to do a fresh install. You may also have to download your drivers for your sound to work. All of this is very doable and can be done at home without taking your computer to a shop.

If you haven't done any of the above before, find a friend who can do it for you. Good luck!

First try restoring your computer to a previous point. Click on the start button, all programs, accessories, system tools, and then click on system restore. Then you pick a date and reboot. If that doesn't work you may have to do a system recovery, which would be erasing all of your hard drive and re-installing windows onto your computer. This can be very risky if you don't know what you're doing. I would try restoring your computer first though. Hope this helps

LOL, looks like they are trying to make some extra money. The only thing that he is going to erinstall on your network card would be your .dll files. You can go online and find them yourself and save the money to take your girlfriend out to dinner.

Goto Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager. Look and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark by your Nertwork Adapters. If there is just click on Driver then Update Driver. You should be go to go!!!! Any probs email me
