I saw a girl in one of my classes last semester who had one. She would just flip the monitor over, like a notebook, and "write" on it while we were taking notes. What is this???

Hello all,
I have a 4 yr old Toshiba laptop A25. The touchpad for the pointer started working intermittently. As if it was being somehow turned off, but I checkunder control panel and it is always on. The touchpad works sometimes when I powerup and other times it does not. it got worse happening more often over time. I never know when I power up if I am going to have to use an exernal mouse that day.Lately it is almost always. It is not showing "touchpad off" in control panel ever. Also now the keyboard is starting the same way the touchpad did. Now, every now and then neither the touch pad nor the keyboard will work at all, but if I quit, and wait a while, when I try again the keypad will work, but lately the touchpad never works anymore. I cannot figure out what the deal is.There are no viruses present. I also have tried using the restore disk, but all that did was make me loose all my files. Please help as I cant afford Geek squad with no warranty left.
Thanks!

I'd like a one within $1,000. That's got at least a microphone and a camera built in. One that will last for quite a while and is acceptable for school and home work.

I always used a lame analogy to a car engine's size paired with it's headers' size. Is this even a correct analogy to use?

I have a Dell 1705 w/ a t2400 and I just want to know what makes the t2450 different? It is a 2.0Mhz duo, but has a smaller front side bus speed ( 533Mhz).

Does one of these chips perform better at "number crunching", but suck at "game graphics"?...and vice versa.

Back to the dumb car analogies...

Will the t2450 beat me in the straightaways, but handle like s h i t in the turns? You get the idea...lol.

Lastly, does this pattern of traits/performance pretty much cover any two chips that have a difference of clock speed vs. bus speed? How much of the bus speed is really represented, or is reflected in the overall performance of the computer?

Thanks for your answers!!!

I will primarily use this laptop to surf the net and maybe work on some MS Word/Excel documents. The main attraction to these two models are the fact that they are Gateway and the price. I have owned 1 gateway for the past 6 years with no problems and it still runs great, as a matter of fact my brother is using it in college. The only factor that makes me feel very uncomfortable is the fact that i will be purchasing from BB, which is not known for its customer service. Any info that can be provided would be extremely beneficial. Thanks.

Hello, you have probably heard many questions along these lines . I am considering buying a laptop in August. I want a laptop that is good for editing. I would want something that can handle 3D editing software without lagging, and could handle a few common games without too much hassle or lag. The main thing I would like is that it wouldn't lag, and I could edit without any trouble. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for a laptop and what you edit on it and what games you play and on which settings. I just would like to see the range of laptops and the possibilites. I live in Canada and I would not want to be paying more than $750. Thank you :)

Say you were running out of battery life on your primary battery, and you wanted to switch it out to the secondary battery.

Can you just switch them out while the laptop is fully on? If you pull out the battery, and immediately replace it with the secondary, is this safe? Will it cause any damage to the hardware/circuitry or anything unfavorable to the notebook in any way?

Thanks in advance!

I have an old laptop that still runs pretty good beside the slow (64Mb) processor and the annoying pop-up from Spyware that I never be able to get rid of....
I'm thinking of upgrade the memory and get the Spyware problem fixed so that I may be able to hang on to it for another while for doing HW and some other light work: word processing, playing music...
However, I'm afraid whether is it worth it to go through all these or not?
Secondly, later I found out that people could convert laptop hard drive as an external HD with the purchase of an enclosure. But then it doesn't seem to be a good deal at all to buy an enclosure for $30-$40 when you can get a brand new external hard drive for around $80.
What is the best way to make use of my old laptop? Upgrade? Or Chop it up?
If upgrade, what things and how much am I looking at?
If chop it up, what other things I can get beside converting hard drive as external HD?
Thanks for any suggestion/resources/ideas.
