If you need to connect wirelessly, you'll need a wireless router.
Unless you can use ethernet cables. First of all the printer has to have wireless capability. If it only has ethernet port, u can buy an ethernet switch to connect the printer and pc to the internet (and with each other.)

As long as your laptop has a wired connection, you can use that plugged directly into the modem. I'd still recommend the router though (wired over wireless for security reasons) to act as a firewall between the Internet and your system.
