I'm looking for various .wav's, midi's, s3m's, mp3's, or just about any other format, of the connection sounds from 300 to 56k baud modems, particularly the 2400 and the 14.4k (and mayhaps the sound from attempting to call a fax line). Anyone know where I could look for them?

Here's what i have so far...
I created a new script, subst2, using three parameters,

1. the string to be replaced ($1)
2. the string with which to replace it ( $2)
3.the name of the file in which to make the substitution ($3)

This performed the substitution and backup file creation when the target string occurs somewhere in the file, but leaves the file completely unchanged if the string being replaced is nowhere in the file.

I got this
if grep "$1" "$3" > /dev/null; then
mv $3 $3.bak
sed "s/$1/$2/g" $3.bak > $3
# grep returned 0, the pattern occurred in at least one line
fi

I got that right but I have a problem with this part right here..

Generalize your subst2 script, producing a new script subst that will apply a substitution to any number of files given on the command line. For example

~/Unix/script/subst foo bar myFile1.txt myFile2.txt myFile3.txt

should apply the same substitution throughout each of the 3 files named there.

I have this code in bash but any code is fine.

I was going to try to transplant a hard drive from one computer to another. It was the C Drive. I have since learned that you cannot just do this, but that aside, here is my problem...

I unplugged the hard drive and was going to put it into the other computer. Upon seeing the SATA vs IDE connection, I realized it wouldn't work and plugged it back into the original computer without changing anything. I connected everything back up then turned it on and it booted up fine.

I left for the day and when I came back the next morning, the computer was dead and would hang up upon trying to load windows. Upon calling IT support, they analyzed it and found serious problems with the system files. The System32 folder which is normally in the "WINDOWS" folder was out of place and hundreds of files were missing. Most of the files in the computer were missing. The User Files that contained important documents were gone. Almost appears the HDD was scrammbled.

HELP!

PC came brand new with XP Home pre-installed. But I installed Vista instead and now for some reason when I try to re-install XP after resetting the PC to install it from there (since I wont be able to do it while windows is running) I get the blue screen just when it finishes loading setup files and says Starting Setup at the bottom. I even tried a different hard drive and still same problem.. Only one i can install over n over again is Vista! Any1 knows whats up with this?

I've store most of my important files inside this thumb drive before i sent my PC for reformatting and install the genuine Windows XP Pro. ( I've been using an unlicensed software earlier). After installing the genuine windows, my thumb drive can't be use at all. When i insert the thumb drive into the USB port, its like i've never insert anything. Its doesn't detect the thumb drive at all. Please help me....

Everytime I play World of Warcraft the entire comp freezes up n I need to restart. I go on the internet for hours at a time and no freeze up it seems just to happen when i play WoW. I also had just gotten a video card update to another game "Fable" before i got the update WoW played just fine but it seems affected afterwards... Today I also got a memory upgrade 2gigs added idk wats going but its really fustrating its still messing up. I dont know what system specs are just that its a dell xp edition 2002. it seems to crash in highly trafficed areas in the game. It never froze in areas like that before. i even dis installed Fable as well n still freezes.

I'm not in school anymore, I graduated. Well Im going to buy an HP laptop. I would like to have microsoft office installed into it during the factory process, but that costs $79. Do you think it's worth it to have it installed? Or is there something cheaper that I could buy from the store?

Also, can I decide to install it by myself later on? Or is that difficult. Because I'm thinking I'd like to have the factory pre-install it for me so that I don't have to mess with installation. Is the installation difficult? i'm pretty good with computers, but who knows. Thanks for your help! :)

My friend says i should get he $75 harddrive upgrade.

I just got a new Asus g1s-a1 laptop today. its upgraded, it should run vista awesome. HOwever, even after installing the updates, my internet is slow, and my programs r slow. Like it was a 5 year old computer slow. I checked teh task manager, and it said my cpu usage was unbelievably high even though i had nothing open. I checked the processes, and they didnt add up to my high CPU usage...what is my Vista doing? I've had the laptop open for about an hour and a half...is it doing some configuring or somthing?
