For older games you will be able to play at fairly high settings, but for newer games you will probably have to lower the settings to medium levels.

It is quite good. But if you are spending that much, consider the 8600GT. For a few dollars more you get a faster card that overclocks like hell and it is future proof because it is a DX10 card. Pretty awesome performance here:

If it's not too expensive, the X1950pro worth much more than the money difference.
