Computers & Internet - 6 August 2007

I had my first computer at 11yo. I think this next generation needs computer skills at an early age, although I'm not sure at what age a kid can be trusted to take care of $500 equipment. I bought mine with my own money back when you hooked it up to a TV, so it was only $300 (remember the Atari 800 XL and Vic 20?). Now computers are more expensive. I really feel like getting started early helped me with my career today. I don't think my nephew is allowed to spend enough time at the computer, so I think he needs his own. At what age can a kid take care of a $500 computer?

Well i mistakely deleted my hard drive and now i don't know what to do with it. I can not use the pc or anything like that and it alos delete my window xp everytime i turn the computer on it goes to the blank window and it does nothing. Well my question is what can i do with it do i need tmo get a new computer or buy a new hard drive or buy a window xp cd i mean i'm so confused.

I have Vonage for my phone service, which is over the internet. I have a Brother fax now and Brother told me it wasn't compatible with Vonage because of the internet phone service. I am a property appraiser so it needs to be able to send and recieve legal size faxes. I recieved alot of faxes with alot of pages, sometimes the contracts they send are 10 to 20 pages at one time.

I have a KORG Professional Arranger 50, (MIDI Keyboard). I also have a Midi Usb cable, which connects my keyboard to the computer. I need a software that will record my midi music, (that i play on the keyboard).. So a software that will Record, and THEN explort into formats such as Mp3/wav..etc.. AND, so the music that is explorted WILL SOUND just exactly like the one I play on the keyboard. If you can, PLEASE HELP. Thanks!

When I press enter it goes down two lines not one and when I delete it reverts back 2 lines up!

a pentium III, 700, 128 or more ram, 20 gig HD, 17" monitor. keyboard and mouse. $150 and a P4 1.8ghz, 400 ram, 20 gig HD, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, 17" monitor. $250. I have also have 1 pair of speakers thast can go with one or the other.

I see pics of these things all the time in articles that talk about computer processors. They're shiny, gold, and holographic looking. About 18 inches in diameter. They're always being help by people in a clean room. I guess the rectangles have something to do with chips. I think they have something to do with the development process.

They didn't have one, so I went somewhere else and got a new one. Best Buy left everything unplugged, so I had to figure out where everything went. I think I have it all plugged in right, but when I turn the computer on, it says "disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter". Why is it doing this? And what should I do? (I haven't found my disk yet anyway and will this erase everything that's on my computer?)

My os system (Mac OS 10.4.9 - power pc) has suddenly slowed down considerably, the mouse pointer started to 'jump' and applications switch much slower than usual. Safari also responds much slower. I doubt it might be a virus or something came from Internet but I can't find the reason. I used the Disk Utility to repair permissions and the disk. Everything seems repaired and the verifications return no error but the problem remains. I haven't installed anything like an application or a plugin, it suddenly started to act weird.

Can anybody think of a specific reason? Is there an alternative application to fix this?

I have checked Dell.com & Bestbuy and Circuit City and the only way i could get a laptop with a dedicated graphics card was to purchase a model that was at least 300$ more then the other models randing in the low 1000's.

What is the best laptop out there, that i can use for music, videos, Instant Messaging, Internet, typing, among other things. I have heard the Macbook Pro is a good laptop since it can do both mac and windows pc applications but requires you to buy the windows program. So what is the best laptop out there, price doesnt really matter but i would like it under 4,000.

I did what they asked and checked it twice.
I turned off my comp and powered everything on in this order:
dsl modem, router, PC, and it still doesnt work. I put the setup wizard CD in and at the end of the setup it said...Unable to connect to router, make sure the adapter is plugged in and the adapter works properly.

All the right lights come on and everything, but its not working!!
PLEASE HELP!!!
