When I press enter it goes down two lines not one and when I delete it reverts back 2 lines up!

Why does this happen and how can I change it?

you have to reset your spacing because right now it is on double space you need to set it to single space:

I think everyone needs a thumbs down.

What happens when you type a paragraph and wordwrap works at the end of the line? If you get single spaced text, then the problem isn't line spacing.

What version of Word are you using? The 2007 version changed the default paragraphs to have space after paragraph added so you only need to press ENTER once between paragraphs as opposed to twice in older versions.

Again, the problem isn't line spacing.

Since you say this happens when you press Enter, I suspect you have extra After spacing on your paragraph style. Here's what to do (Word XP (2002), 2003 and possibly 2000):

1. Click in any paragraph.
2. Click on the Format->Styles and Formatting menu item. The Styles sidebar should pop up.
3. The paragraph style for the selected paragraph should be selected with a box. Move the cursor over it.
4. A listbox arrow should appear in the box. Click it and select Modify.
5. Click the Format button and select Paragraph.
6. Look in the After text box. It should be zero. If it's not, set it to zero.
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK on the Modify Style dialog box.

All the paragraphs that use this style in this document should now change. If you want this to propagate to the template this document is based on (probably Normal.dot), do this:

1. Click the Tools->Organizer menu item. A dialog box with two list boxes will appear. The left-hand list box will show the styles in your document' the right-hand will show the styles in the template your document is based on (probably Normal.dot).
2. In the left-hand list box, find the style you just changed and select it.
3. The Copy>> button will enable. Click it to copy the style to the template.
4. Click Close.
5. When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to the Global template. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dot. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

Any new documents created with the template will now use this updated style.

Sounds like your line spacing is formatted for Double spacing. To change to Single spacing:

Click on Format at Top Menu Bar, Select Paragraph, Select 'Indents and Spacing' Tab, look down through 'General', 'Indentation', and then under 'Spacing' - in the 'Line spacing' box make sure the Single option is selected (or which ever choice you want) and then click 'Ok'. This will set your line spacing to Single so that whenever you hit the Enter key you will only space down one line at a time.

This happens because someone set MS Word to double-space. To fix it, go to Paragraph under the Format menu. Make sure you are in the Indents and Spacing tab. Under where it says "Spacing", change the Before option to 0pt and the After option to 0pt. Also, change the value for "Line Spacing" to Single and make sure the box for At is blank. Then press OK to save these settings.

You have to change to paragraph format. Go to the Format Menu and select Paragraph and then look for line spacing change it from double to single. That should take care of the issue you are having.

Pressing enter means to start a new paragraph. To avoid that you press shift key with enter key to jump to one line.

MS word has a mechanism to enable consumers indentify the places the place new lines have been inserted on your rfile. there's a button on the familiar gadget bar which feels like || (the logo you're describing on your question), its gadget tip is tutor/disguise ||. you basically click in this button and this image will pass away. regularly human beings use this methodology to perceive in the event that they have left extra whitespaces earlier the tip of line. wish this helps.

this happens to me too.
when i copy paste info from the net (for reference.) and then add a little note for me to understand, still, double spaced.
even when i erase that small space and then press enter again, there's still this double spaced... SPACE!
even if i set the spacing between the paragraphs.

so what i do: i would have it copied on my notepad. save it and then copy paste it to MSword. it would work sometimes, but sometimes not.
