i 've having this BIG doubt for over quite a long time now ..How much power does a normal PC take ? ..with monitor switched on and without switching on the monitor .. ? Some of ma frnds were telling like a PC with monitor switched of does take only little power ..like about 10-20w or sumthing ? Is this true ? I believd this and i had listened to music by switching off the monitor ..but about a few days back i heard the other way ..since pc has an SMPS unit ..it takes almost 100w ..!! Is this true ?? Hello everyone....i want to change my computer operating system. I currently have "Microsoft 2003 Student Edition" installed on my computer. I want to buy and install "Microsoft XP Professional" on my computer. I need to know two things: 1) When I install XP Professional, will it write over my current operating system (I would like it if it did so that I wouldn't have any trouble un-installing it)? 2) Will all the data that is currently saved on my computer be safe?

i would greatly appreciate anyone's help and any additional advise concerning this too...

I have a G5 iMac which is using an Airport Extreme card to connect to a wireless internet connection. I also have an G4 iBook which is sat in the same room plugged in to the wireless router with an ethernet connection.

Is there any way I can use the iMac to access drives on the iBook (and vice versa I guess) by setting up some sort of private network?

I picked up a Satellite P105-S9722 last week, but I haven't opened it yet, as I'm still trying to decide if it is worth it.I think the big thing that concerns me is the 4200rpm 200GB HD.I'm still trying to figure out just how bad the performance of this laptop would be due to the slow hard drive. In a worst case scenario I was thinking of upgrading the hard drive myself, but I can't find any documentation on what is involved in upgrading the hard drive of a P105 (Toshiba's docs only cover memory module upgrades).I'm not expecting the hard drive to perform as well as a 5400rpm or 7200rpm hard drive, but I'm wondering more about what the real world impact will be of a slower hard drive? Just slower loading times, or will it cause real hiccups, etc. while playing games as well? How will games like HL2, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Oblivion, WoW, BF2, etc. perform with a hard drive like this?

Over the years I've noticed something eating away at the reflective layer of various cd-r's and cd-rw's. It happens usually from the edges but also from spots sometimes. I've sometimes checked cd's I haven't looked at in years and found a sticky brownish fluid betwwen them, especially at the edges. I at first assumed I'd spilled something but it's clear that's not it. So, 2 things: dissolvong reflective layer, and stickiness. Sometimes the 2 coincide sometimes not. Relationship: unknown. Also, the sticky stuff is sometimes found on regular stamped cd's but not the chipping silver.
