I have an XP Home on my CPU, I have a reinstall XP Pro disc, can i simply go into the bios, boot from CD, reinstall with the product key code and basically write-over XP Home and still have all my Program Files, data, etc?

guys I want to buy processor. but due to lack of budget I cant buy the best one. for AMD i think i can try 2800+ not more than that. in case of intel it is minimum 2.66GHz.
now the problem is which one should i buy? AMD or Intel?
also another question. intel's buss speed is 800 or more than 1000. but amd is having 200 or 333 0r 400. isnt it too slow? atleat when you compare with intel?
how do you compare this two processors buss?
