They are flatbed cars with vertical beams down the middle. Sometimes they are vertical panels with big ovals cutout of them. If you look at one of these cars from the end it would look like an upside down "T". They never carry any load.

Sometimes I think they are just there to make the train longer, making me wait more!

I really want to do a job with trains! I turned 18 in april, nows the time I thought I can get some kind of job where i'll be around trains. I know I can't be a conductor right away, but what can I be? I'm near phoenix AZ, and I Union Pacific doesnt show anything saying they need anyone but does that mean theres nothing?

Hi there
Does anyone know if you have to be a rail user to park the car in South West train stations' car parks? Surely they can't go round asking all drivers??

Now that fuel prices in the United States are increasing, does anyone think that there will be a revival of light rail systems in the country?

Anyone agree? I have only been commuting on the Silverlink (Stratford to Kentish Town West) for a week and i believe it to be the shittiest service i have ever been on. Dirty and dated carriages, over crowding (especially at Highbury)...On some days trains just vanish when the platform monitor says it's 'on time'...yeah ok...
I have no idea how **** this service before and lord help me as i have to continue using it for the forseeable future....god bless the modern age of rail travel in 2007...

I've been checking the status of train 6 from California to Illinois and it's almost ALWAYS 5 hours late to Chicago, often more than that. I just wondered why the same schedule is kept in place.

Is this why a struggling diesel train under a big load will always flatten a penny more than one running "light" or braking/coasting. Is this "force" what they mean when they talk about "traction"? Is there often a slipping of the wheels on the rails as they try to get the train moving?

Will the Canadian Pacific be bought by the Union Pacific or will they strike out own their own and buy the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern and the Kansas City Southern?

American railroads were taken away by the Mexican government early in the twentieth century. It seems to me that Mexico lost a lot by this. Was efficient rail travel to and within Mexico one example of this loss?

Was San Francisco to Guadalajara one non-stop journey available without changing trains or cars? If so, are there any records of travel on this route? How long did it take? Were there Pullman cars? What did the trip cost? Did anybody write about it?
