I'm thinking perhaps Kansas City Southern, what with them running down into Mexico (perhaps they will be swallowed up by another company?)

I've seen this sign in different places along railroad tracks .. it said .. began twc .. or something like that. So just what does that mean?

What actually makes them come on? I figure it's electrical but what tells them to come on ... is it something on the tracks?

So who came up with that for train and traffic lights .. red means stop ... yellow means slow down .. and green means go?

In this picture, I notice that there are Indians at the Cowboy stop. I always thought that the Indians stayed at Fort Boone, so why are these indians at the cowboy stop?

I've always considered a train, subway, and trolley to be similiar. All have tracks to travel on. The train and trolley are on land and the subway is underground. What's the difference between them?

I hear the trains on a CSX track rolling over the gap in the rail and I'm wondering if it makes the crew a bit nervous.

Personally, I wish the CP (my employer) would buy the ICE (Iowa Chicago and Eastern) and the Kansas City Southern to get to the Gulf like their arch-rival CN did when they bought the Illinois Central.

I know that the Union Pacific was hauling shipments of livestock (hogs) from points in Nebraska and Kansas to a packing plant in Los Angeles up until the late 80's or early 90's. But on my last trip paralleling the UP's "Overland Route" mainline two summers ago I didn't see any livestock loading pens or livestock cars so I'm guessing they lost that traffic. A shame, I think.

I want to work with the railroad so bad! I really want to be around trains (I pull over and watch trains go by, or listen on radio when they are coming by). What kind of jobs are there, I can get to be around moving trains, (non fixing them, or building ect). Can I be a conductor with no schhooling? If I do go to college, what kind of course should i take. If there are train crews needed in a town like 80 miles away (very small town in AZ desert) could I maybe get that job somhow.. in my area.. if they have same stuff just not listed as they need a person there.
Thanks,

I've noticed near rail lines in my 'hood that there seems to be alot of junk like old tie piles, spike piles, tie plates, anchors, etc. laying around. Kids sometimes amuse themselves by putting lines of spikes on the tracks, and even tie plates. I'm assuming that since a train hasn't ever derailed despite all this junk on the tracks that they won't. Is the reason that they don't derail is because they have so much mass moving in a straight line, and it would take something to throw them off on a side angle to actually derail them?

What would be your opinion of creating a high speed rail system from the San Francisco Airport to Tokyo's Airport using one great floating bridge, approximately 5,100 miles. The trip would be comfortable and would be only 14 hours (speed 300+). The energy for the trains would be supplied by either solar, wind or ocean energy along the way. The floating bridge would contain a floating base every 1/4 of a mile. There would be a train departing hourly each direction. 26 trains would be using the system at a time. What is your opinion on this transportation meathod?

I want to show somone what I do, over a email, but I I can't find any pictures of the inside of newer Diesel Loco's. I'd prefer a Union Pacific train, and to be more pacific, a SD90MAC. Dout you have any idea what that is. lol
Well if you got any pictures, let me know. Best pictures, I'll choose you as best answer. Ready-Set-Go!
