Is it possible that if you stood in the road on railroad tracks and a train hit you, you might just be badly injured, but still survive? Or is it guaranteed that you'd die?

I noticed that there appears to be two styles of crossing arms: one is a straight bar, the other is a tweezer shaped object made of two bars merging together at the top. Is one style better than the other. Is one the more modern version?

I've never rode a train and I am thinking of taking the train up to Chicago some weekend. How is the ride? (It'd be about 3 hours)

ok this isn’t really a question but im just so annoyed at the moment!!
ive been stood at the smelly train station for over an hour and a half!!! and not one train turned up!!
so i took down the complaints number and made a few calls when i got home!!
turns out all trains are cancelled and they have been for the past week!!!
i was so furious!! There was no notification for nothing!!
had to put up with a chav smoking weed... i must have passively smoked 3 fags!! even though there are clear signs saying DO NOT SMOKE!! it stank of pee, was cold and started to rain again!!

if its not the trains its the buses. is public transport going to improve, we're charged more than enough to use the services, its only right we get what we're paying for!!

how does the government expect us to use public transport services to prevent global warming when they're not good enough. its so frustrating, people like me that don’t own a car or other forms of vehicle rely on public transport.
Without them is like im prisoner in my own home!! Ok maybe not in my own home but my town, especially on a Saturday.
Saturday = shopping day. No trains/slow buses=no shopping = no fun= boring miserable day!!

Wow I thought I was the only one obsessed with train crossing signals but some have even made websights on them. Here is one I found very interesting on antique signals: http://www.trainweb.org/dansrailpix/WIG_WAG_PAGE1c.htmnes. I had seen one of these a long time ago and it was replaced with the arms, and someone was even nice enough to film one working here is the websight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ0k98v-l6E&mode=related&search=

the first one is alright but there are some other ones that come up when you see the menu after that one. Try the one in Nevada it has the sound.

They had a story in Arizona where amtrak kick an unruly passenger off the train in the middle of nowhere and he wasn't found for four days. 110 degree heat dehydrated the drunk 60 something year old cuss out something awful. They found him four days later, He was almost dead.

I am wondering, why would they go through the trouble of installing a signal system at a crossing if they are just going to put the flashing lights if it was the same system where they could put the arms as well.

Did Santa Fe buy Burlington Northern or did Burlington Northern buy Santa Fe to create BNSF?

I observed one time at the railyard in Albuquerque to see if I could see any hitching or unhitching of cars going on. I saw nothing.

I always thought the railyard was some big stopping area for the trains similair to a truckstop. Heck I even envisioined the corporate offices as being there and basically anything having to do with the railroad there. Now looking at it I just see a bunch of abandoned buildings.

In a previous question about railroad signals someone stated that many accidents happened in her town becuase the things did not come down sometimes. Well I have complete trust in the things, I always prefer crossings that have them so I don't have to look both ways. If the things arent down or starting to come down I just go right through crossing.

Now that they started a coummuter rail service in our area they had to install signals along the tracks where only freight trains would run before. It is one light that changes colors: yellow, red, green.

I saw a light rail going one way and a freight train going in the opposite direction on the same dual track. So now I'm confused. This applies to the US.
