Wow I thought I was the only one obsessed with train crossing signals but some have even made websights on them. Here is one I found very interesting on antique signals: http://www.trainweb.org/dansrailpix/WIG_WAG_PAGE1c.htmnes. I had seen one of these a long time ago and it was replaced with the arms, and someone was even nice enough to film one working here is the websight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ0k98v-l6E&mode=related&search=

the first one is alright but there are some other ones that come up when you see the menu after that one. Try the one in Nevada it has the sound.

So basically your opinions please.

Of all the crossing signal types, the wig wag is by far my favorite (they're just unique and interesting with that swinging, flashing, arm) and it's too bad they have fallen out of favor with only a scattered few still in service today (I do wonder, though, if they will return one day). Nice video, thanks for sharing!

I know of one wig wag still operating on my seniority district.

It is at the south end of the yard in Klamath Falls, Oregon. It protects a crossing into a radio station/transmitter called KLAD.

There was one other that I knew of, but it too has probably been replaced. It was located just north of Gold Run, on the Donner Pass Route over the Sierras between Roseville, Ca., and Sparks, Nevada.

I always thought the wig wags were pretty cool, with more 'character' than the good ol' crossing gates.

But, the bottom line has always been the same. You ignore them, you die........

Interesting. Never used in Australia, we have flashing lights or just a sign on minor roads.
