Did Santa Fe buy Burlington Northern or did Burlington Northern buy Santa Fe to create BNSF?

Well, BN was the much bigger and more solvent RR, but it seems as if Santa Fe management took over. I think technically it was a merger although it was BN that acquired the Santa Fe.

I believe BN bought Santa Fe. I visited the BN rail yards in Fort Worth about 10 years back, and I believe that's what they told us.

I believe the above poster is correct in that BN was the dominate partner in the merger.
