It seems today that drivers on the road are completely oblivious to what was driving ettiquette. Traditionally the left lane is for passing, but now it it constantly hogged by "left-lane bandits" going under the speed limit. Even rig drivers whom are traditionally the best drivers on the road (no, I'm not a trucker) have been passing in the left lane and driving in the center lane. Granted with the volume of rude cars entering and exiting the highway it's probably safer there.
Another pieve is when the highway narrows down and people insist on racing up to the point where the lane closes and wants to mege then...and people let them in!
Where did our ethics and courtasies go?

FOR PERFORMANCE DRIVERS ONLY

Do you agree with this analogy?

Fast on Straights = Money + RIGHT FOOT

Fast at Corners = Money + SKILL.

If you agree, why are folks impress about driving fast on straights?

Maybe it's the money or maybe it's the right foot.

My mom told me that when she bought her car new it got about 20 miles to the gallon (highway), but now 2-3 years later she says it gets 34 miles to the gallon. I'm just curious to see if it is true.

I am 30 yrs old and I really want to get a personalized license plate . We can only have 7 spaces. I have racked my brain trying to think of something, can anyone come up with anything at all clever to put. I was going to put something to the effect of being late all the time. But every spelling I came up with was taken, so I've give up on that one. Can anyone help think Of anything?

I **love** cars. I really do. But as much as I do, in light of fuel prices and dependency, it disturbs me that there seems to be a horsepower war among manufacturers, and consumers are loving it. Do we not understand the relationship between power and consumption? How can we fix this as a society?

In all seriousness, I have a 1992 Mazda with 92 bhp (when it was new...). Admittedly, it's as slow as you might imagine, but I get as much as 36mpg (highway). Today you can barely find a car that gets 36 mpg, now 15 years later!

Yes, I know there *are* cars that get better mpg... But do we have an obsession that needs a cure, or am I off base here?

I mean you still have to sit in traffic and how many small parking spaces are there in our towns and cities? They are also really dangerous in an accident and handle very poorly! Quite cute to look at i agree but a bit pointless i reckon!

I need to get 4 new tyres for my car here in Ireland. Given that we don't have to deal with much snow at all, are summer tyres the best bet for all year round or perhaps winter tyres?
Thanks

What is the best way to brake in car, with or without the engine assistance? Is it true, that engine braking consumes additional fuel comparing to cluthcing and braking from certain speed to 0mp/h with foot brakes only? I heard engine braking provides you additional oil distribution around the whole engine. Is that all true? How to brake most efficient with fuel saving and not tearing pads+discs too much?

PS-does too much engine braking influence stressing the timing belt?

Research published today in the UK has suggested that white car drivers are less likely to have an accident, and are the safest to drive.

But does that mean that "white van man" is a myth ? (White van man is rupetedly a dangerous driver!)

Statistics can be used to say anything. Interested in your thoughts.

My friend believes that no pick up can get decent fuel economy, he has a 98 Dodge pickup with V-6 and he says he only gets 12 mpg in town. I try to explain its because he doesn't do the schedueled maintnance like oil changes and air and fuel filters, he believes that NO pickup can get decent fuel ecomony, and he calims his dad is an aerodynamicist and has told him this.

I KNOW that driving with the tailgate down actually hurts your fuel economy and driving with it up is the best bet. but he won;'t believe me. Can anyone point me in the direction of scientific studies I can read online and show him to prove my point.

Hey everyone
I'm looking at buying some aftermarket rims for my car, aswell as some better handling tires.
I live in Manitoba, and we get quite a bit of snow in the winter, but's usually cleared away a day or so after it falls.
Anyway.
With my rims, I'm going to be using Goodyear Triple Tred Assurance tires. These are tires that can handle wet, dry, snow and ice, and are still very good performers.
But as my rims will be aftermarket, should I think about getting a set of winter only tires for my car and mount them on my steel wheels, so as to protect the aftermarket rims from things like road salt and the such? Or will it be safe to use my aftermarket wheel and tire combo for the kind of driving conditions I'll see?
