As opposed to being suited to rivers or lakes? Obviously size comes in to it (if you want a comfortable journey- I know people have crossed oceans in vessels no larger than beach dinghies!), but what other factors? I know nothing about boats but want to learn!

How can I learn by looking at two boats (sail or motor) whether they are meant for lake circuits or cross channel/ Atlantic voyages?

Now don't laught at me here, but does it have something to do with the large, upside-down fin that many boats have sticking out of their hulls in to the water? Eg, the deeper, the more stable in high waters?

Thanks!

PS, any sources for very, very basic boating anatomy and terminology would be very gratefully recieved!

I was just wondering if sea-sickness is a brief malady or if it's something that plagues you for a whole voyage (eg, you vomit and then feel fine, or vomiting makes no difference).

Also, am I right in understanding that a sailor's 'sea legs' are his/ her ability to withstand sea-sickness? And if so, is it something you have for life or do you have to develop sea legs for every voyage?

Lastly, how relevant is the size/ type of a vessel to levels of sickness? EG- small fishing boat, lots of sea sickness; aircraft carrier, next to no sickness?

Thanks for your help!

What is stray current corrosion and how do you prevent it from happening to your boat? I have heard of zinc anodes, isolation transformers and galvanic isolation. What do you recomend and why?

It's a Marthon 27' cabin cruiser with a Chevy/OMC 350 stern drive. I would like to convert it and was wondering what the cheapest and best way to do this is. I want to take it in salt water for extended periods and I don't want to ruin the motor. I've been researching heat exchangers but it's kind of confusing. Any advise appreciated, thanks.

II sit here at 4pm, and about to play guitar at a racecourse Boaty Festival in a couple of hours The pot-belly stove thing has gone out - bung a log or three on I suppose, the TV has lost it's batteries, I can't get this thing in tune for the love of God.
I have hurt my ankle emptying the loo, and the power needle tells me that this system is about to pack up.
Should I just throw myself in the river, with Gandolf the boxer dog, and just swim around ?
Or swallow a pill and head for the festival ?
Quick! I need advice.
Bob.
