Large cruisers and ships have these made of bronze because seaweed and barnacles cannot attach itself - otherwise this would cause an imbalance on the propeller as it rotated and would make the whole boat vibrate and ruin the prop-shaft, bearing and engine. The other main property of bronze is that it doesn't rust.

All propellers are not made of Bronze. Many are Brass and some smaller ones of Stainless Steel and Aluminium. The main factor is that they must not rust/oxidise.

I would think it is because it is a non ferrous metal and is not brittle when under stress.
