Hi. Well I'm stuck with this problem. I'm suppose to be moving but my mom and dad are trying to think how are my sister and brother are going to get from Pittsburgh, PA to Carlsbad, CA. I'm not sure wheater the plane or train. But I have a fear of flying but my mom doesn't want me on a train for 2 1/2 to 3 days. But a plane takes 3 hours. I don't know what to do, I was scared of flying ever since 9/11. Flying is new to me even thought I went for a helicopter ride but I heard they're different. What do you think I should do? I know plane are shorter but I don't want to have a fear for 3 hours.

I'm a licensed Private Pilot and am beginning my instrument training soon. What is the best book to help me prepare for the FAA Instrument Pilot Written Exam? I've bought the Jeppesen Instrument Commercial Manual but isn't there a study guide similar to the one Jep has for the Private Pilot written? (that particular book helped me score a perfect 100 on the written exam for my PPL)

There is a simple measure that can be taken to prevent hijacking and a repeat of 9/11; lock the doors to the cockpit. There is no reason why anybody should have access to the cockpit apart from the pilots. The pilots should be able to leave the cockpit in some circumstances but there are no circumstances where other people should enter the cockpit. Why is this not done?

I have to fly to Tokyo in the morrow, and I bloody well have to check in here in Bangkok at 4:50am?!? Even the birds aren't up yet....who decided we all have to be kit packed & ready for inspection at this un-Godly time of the day? Wouldn't a nice 'lie-in' reduce the jet lag that I never suffer eaisly? Does the pilot wake up in the small hours and inform the wife 'now is a good time to fly'??? Come on...this ain't cricket (fair play).

Did market research dictate this as a positive move, or is there something here that is beyond my perspective?

I'd like to know!

The propellers are way above their heads. Is it just a natural reaction or is there an actual explination?

My husband dreams of being a commercial pilot. I would love for him to live his dream, but don't think I can make all the sacrifices. He has worked in the industry for 13 years. He knows many pilots. He tells me a lot of them have marriage trouble or are divorced. Mostly because they put so much time into fly they put their marriage second. Their wives got fedup of always being broke. He has been offered a good management job in the middle of nowhere. I don't want to move there because there is nothing. No restaurants/department stores nothing it's really in the middle of nowhere. He wants the job because he can maybe fly with them in the future. I don't want to make the move. We have a 1yr old daughter and I don't want to live like that. I want to support him, but don't want to struggle for the next 5-10 years until he is making enough $ to pay the bills. Is it really worth all the sacrifices we have to make?? Please tell me your success or failures.

As soon as the plane took off I started to feel bad. I was acting like Dustin Hoffman in the Rain Man. I was keeping my head down, fiddling with the earphones, jerking and jumping on my seat. I even told my wife at one point that I thought the plane was slowing down. Irrational, I know, but at the time I really felt it was happening. I would love to overcome this as it will affect future holidays with my family, as, the way I feel at the moment, I may not be able to take a plane again. Any advice would be greatlt appreciated. Thank You.
