Is it common during layovers, for crewmembers to hang out in each other’s hotel rooms? My fiancé, an FO, is telling me that it is standard in the aviation industry. My experience in the business world is that it's inappropriate to enter a colleague's hotel room.

Of course you can guess why I am asking. He hung out in a female flight attendant's room one evening. They watched TV, ate pizza and played cards. I believe that it was totally innocent, but it still makes me uneasy. It gives a bad impression and I don’t understand why neither of them thought to of going to the hotel’s common area to hang out.

Is this the kind of worry and uneasiness I can look forward to as a pilot’s wife?

I love the MD-11 in all shcemes. Although the flowing fabric looks fantastic!

Why dont they bring back traffic cops? In the
old days, on television, I used to see these
guys with funny looking flashlights directing
airplanes. On aircraft carriers I think they
still have them, right? You could have a cop at
each turn off on the runway. I mean, how much
could it cost. You hire a guy and give him a
pair of flashlights. Geeze!

I have read that many of those who die in A/C crashes do NOT die from Blunt force trauma, but from inhaling toxic fumes, would a Halon system in the Cargo bins, Cabins etc save lives, or is the weight and cost to high? Would it work? I know Halon removes O2 from the air, but with masks on, would you not survive?

I notice that Boeing 747-400's are being used less on certain trans-Atlantic, and some trans-Pacific routes...nowadays it seems to be more of a mix of twin-engine aircraft, MD-11s and some 747-400s on the transatlantic runs.. they even use twin-engine jets like the 777 on some long-haul trans-pacific routes...what are some of the reasons for this?
