Being in the military and having flown around the world 4 times, my suggestion is this. Wear comfortable shoes, and loose fitting pants, ie sporty sweat pants, and a warm, but loose top. Bring snacks, but make sure beforehand you can carry the items on the plan per the FAA regs. Dont forget something to read, a magazine or two help and a neck bun for those sleeping hours. When in flight, get up and walk around, look at all the different parts of the plane and STRETCH that body, cause there is nothing worse then tired sore muscles, and jetlag after traveling to put a bad start to an awesome vacation!

Flying for the first time can be a little scary, but there's nothing to worry about - relax and enjoy the trip!! Lots of fun stuff to do in London, focus on that - take a good book to read, there'll probably be a movie to watch, they'll feed you - although that may not be the high point of the trip! - take some snackies along. Let the flight attendant know that this is your first flight, chances are they will go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and at ease. Have a great trip!!

I have worked in the airline industry. Here are some of the tips I gave to my passengers.
1. let the flight attendant know you are nervous. They will do extra for you
2. carry a favorite pillow with you on board. That way you can lean your head on it and/or squeeze it when you get nervous
3. bring a walkman and your favorite music with you
4. pig out while on board. you are going a long way and the food is FREE. Allow yourself to have fun
5. even though security measures are tight right now, ask if you can visit the cock pit sometime during the flight. They may have you do it right before take off. Talk with the pilot.
6. get your favorite book to read. not a short one either. once you are totally engrosed in it, you will be landing before you know it.
7. if you suffer from motion sickness, get the sea sick bands. They are sold at any drug store and work great w/out any side effects at all.
8. Sit in the bulk head. That area has more leg room so you can stretch out a bit more. I hate sitting any place else.
9. When you are in the air, look at the clouds below you. They are incredible.

Everyone is scared on their first flight. Thats normal. But, by taking my tips, I can promise an easier flight. Enjoy yourself while on board and have a wonderful trip!

If you're scared of heights or anything like that, don't get a window seat. Other wise, be sure to get one. It's an amazing view from up there....of course you'll be over water a lot and there will be nothing to see. But like tha other have said, dress comfortably, don't carry anything that airport security will throw in the garbage and enjoy London! Haven't been across the pond myself, but I hear it interesting over there.

i've flown to london on a nonstop flight from san francisco, trust me, there is nothing to be scared of, it is completely safe and you have ten hours to just sleep. if your fear does get too much i suggest trying dramamine or asking your doctor about a medication that will make you sleep through the flight.

My mom is scared to fly. She always takes gravol or NyQuil before she flies. That way she sleeps through the flight. UK flights are usually over night so its not a problem. You have nothing to be scared of. Just don't think about it being scary. Be excited that you are flying for the first time. Change your mindset about flying.
