This is possible.
Is it true.?
May be. Can be.
If he is working for the company that makes plains for Arm forces, or he is a member of the arm forces.
They have plains that are able to fly at 2500 knots or over 2500 mph. These planes do make goodwill visits to different countries from time to time. The plain may or may not have the range but that is not the issue, they can be refuel in air.
People can volunteer to get on these plain when they need to test passenger/crue capacity. It is call geting a pump or jumping on a plain.
British air ways and Air france was flying supersonic Concorde passanger service, that could have done that also but I would think it would not be non stop, it would need refueling, and it would take half an hour more for refueling. It could easily do the trip in 10 hour max with reflueling.
Flight, could be say New York to London or Paris and Paris to New Dehli. The second leg would be over the North Pole.
Service was reduced to Paris, New York and New York, London long time ago. Concord were retierd few years ago. Cost was $ 15,000/- one way Paris, New york(in 1980 gas was $.89 a gallon in USA). One of my co-worker flew it in an emergency. The only other person that I know was a high ranking officer of an aircraft conpany that I was employed with. My company provided the training equiptment to train Pilots for the Concorde and I was responsible for the stucture to mount the equiptment on the motion platform.
They may have test flown Concord non Stop, New York to Delhi, with special extra fuel tanks and less passanger, but I do not remember any such flight.
So the person may be correct, it would be very special senerio.
It can be done to-day.
There are rocket crafts (passanger) in the conceptual desing phase by many aircraft makers. The actual demand is just not there. At to-day's fuel prices the trip from Paris to New York can cost lot more.
It is just matter of time, all long range air passaenger servises can go supersonic in near future. Time will tell.
Edit:
kumar k: Is not correct India is ahead of USA so time difference is added. My interpretation is you or he(the friend) meant acual in air time.
Old Boeing 707 fully loaded, was capable of acieving it in 16 hours actual air time, with tail wind.
