Im currently studying to be a general mechanic but plan on continuing on to be a diesel mechanic. I'm not too sure what field i'd like to work on whether it be automotive diesel, light/medium trucks, or industrial trucks. I have an outline of what my tool set would consist of as a regular mechanic but want to start planning what I would need if I were to work the light/medium or industrial truck category. What size drive tools.... 3/4 or 1 inch? I have mostly metric sizing, to what extent would I need to invest in standard size sockets and wrenches? How much lbs. of force would I need out of my impact tools? I know there is a broad variety of specialty tools that vary by manufacturer make. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard that it isn't good for a car for it to idle for too long. I was making a cross country (U.S.) drive when I moved. I didn't sleep well one night, and was sleepy during the drive the next day. I was drinking caffeine. But I stopped at a rest stop and took a nap. It's in the middle of the winter, and I'm driving through Utah at the moment, so it's freezing. I wound up sleeping for a while, running the engine for a few moments every now and then to warm the car up. I was using my cell phone as an alarm clock. But I was so tired that I wound up dozing off while the car was actually running, and it ran for a couple of hours. I learned my lesson about sleeping in the car in the middle of the winter. I should have just called it quits that day and found a motel. But it's too late for that. My car doesn't normally idle much. I don't go through many drive thrus, and I'm not usually in gridlock traffic. So how much damage could have been done to my car by it idling like that? Thanks!

I am currently using Valvoline Maxlife in my 1994 Volvo 960. It has almost 150,000 miles on it and I really want to make it last as long as possible. I change the oil every 4000 miles. Is switching to full synthetic (Mobil 1 High mileage) a good idea or a waste of money?

Just started getting into customizing bikes this season, I like to find the older 70's style ones for a couple hundred and make them into bobbers or choppers, did a great job on a cheap xs I got a few months ago, saw an xs-1100 for sale the other day in mint, for only a couple hundred so jumped on it. My buddy said that since it was shaft drive, I may have problems lowering it because of the change in degree of the shaft, I'll be dropping it about 6 inches, just removing the shocks and using fender struts. I've seen plenty of pics of shaft drive bikes dropped and lowered, I just need to know what issues I will have and what do I need to do to prevent damage, cosmetics are simple, some ebay solo seats, drag bars, jesse james fenders, etc, but not much of a mechanic as far as internals go, what do I have to have done to be able to lower a shaft drive bike without issues?? if there are any?
